Re: How many days have you bow hunted for Deer this season?

I'm well over 30 hunts. I never keep track. Mostly evenings. Took 4 with my crossbow and 1 with my AR15

Re: Is anyone deer hunting at 100+ yards?

Also, you said you have stock diablos and 100gr heads. That puts you at the minimum 350gr arrow weight. That means at distance your arrow is losing speed and momentum much faster than a heavier arrow. That means at distance your arrow penetration will suffer. Yes you are right I understand that. I ...

Re: Is anyone deer hunting at 100+ yards?

I limit my shots to 35yds or so on whitetail deer. Is the bow accurate enough to shoot longer...yes. Would my arrow be lethal at say 50 or 75 yards...yes. But as others have said, too much can go wrong from the time the shot is fired until it gets to the 100 yd target. Also, you said you have stock ...

Re: knife sharpener

I have a work sharp (among several other sharpeners) and it works great. Once you get a knife sharp I only use the finest belt and about 5 strokes per side and I'm good to go again. And by that I mean I can shave my arm hair with it. But it does take some practice as you can burn the tip off of a kn...

Re: Lectured about energy .....

I have shot an Ibex at 25 yards, a ram at 20 yards, and two deer at 18 and 22 yards and all the arrows passed through and the animals didn't go very far. If the arrow passes completely through the animal it was traveling with sufficient energy. Any more energy is just going to bury it deeper in the...

Re: Legal shooting hours

Hours in NC are 1/2hr before sunrise to 1/2hr after sunset. And I totally agree with grouse. AT least for me, I can't see too much in the woods at the start of or end of legal light. I don't mind tracking at night, but I typically only sit until with my naked eye at 30 yds I would have a hard time s...

Re: Silencing options

I do not like to do anything to my bow that costs me arrow speed without giving me anything in return. As such, I only use a Flemish string, a heavier arrow (which does the most) and the string bumpers. The heavier arrow costs me speed but give me more arrow momentum which translates to better penet...

Re: I got my deer today vertical

Congratulations young man!! Not only your first vert bow harvest, but you went out by yourself, setup, made the shot and found the deer!! You are already more accomplished than many others who take to the field. And you have learned the valuable lesson of helping others. Great gereat job!

Re: custom arrows question

I find Zombies to fly a little better for me from my Micro, but IMO the main reason to go with them is that the stiffer arrows also seem to penetrate better. Less flex at impact means less drag through the animal. FWIIW I cut mine to 16" and the 125gr Ramcat is fully inside the stirrup.

Re: Few questions from first time crossbow buyer

I shoot a Micro 335 and have put arrows completely through bison with that setup. Chasing fps is not necessay IMO. Anything in the Excalibur lineup will put arrows right through the animals you want to kill (as well as any other big game animal in North America). It's more about the arrow setup than...
