Re: Hog Hunt = A Blast!

I think the knives and spears thing they do with dogs. Not for me either. A pistol will be next for me. Probably my .357 Dan Wesson. Need to find a good bullet for it, though. I bet that derringer is a Bond Arms gun. Probably a very large caliber [/quote] When I saw the derringer, my first thought w...

Re: Hog Hunt = A Blast!

When you look on they're website, they list weapons down to spears and knives. Then you browse the gallery. There are some guys using knives, spears and even a derringer. I'm ok hunting piggies with a .45 but not sure I want to do it with a spear or a knife!

Re: Trophy Ridge XV 530 IL

I bought one for my Grizzly last fall based on some one elses recommendation here on the forum. It has performed pretty well so far. The illumination really helps extend the shooting time

What is this? Can I go?
It is a get together, that the gracious "Boo" hosts at a place he owns on the East coast of Canada. Called "Boofest". Shooting, camping out, meeting forums members in person. Which could be good or bad depending... :P

String tracker

galamb posted he is using a string tracker. I have never heard of this before. Does anyone else use one on a crossbow? How does it work when you have a pass thru and the bolt is stuck in the ground? I would consider this for where we hunt and especially for my 17 yr old son who took his first deer t...

Re: 2018 ATA Show

Down where my son sits with the Matrix I went down in the off season and physically measured from the stand to a number of trees. Then I painted the yardages on the trees. So it is easier for him to figure out the yardage with out him having to range them...

Re: Laser Ranging Sight

I have never really done any hunting with a red dot scope. I have a vortex on one of my rifles but I also prefer a scope for my hunting. At crossbow ranges it might not be a problem for me. I would just have to try one. My eyes get worse every year...

Re: Laser Ranging Sight

What prevents that from being adapted now?
Mount seems like a problem. What else? Switch could be adapted. I don't know how bow speed is accommodated but crossbows have drop like verticals although maybe not as much

Re: Any Info On Excalibur Assassin Crossbow ???

I am kind of put off buy the name of the bow to tell you the truth with hunting being under constant attack buy anti hunters "Assassin "does not put forth a good image for me and I eat two deer a year every year for the last 30 years. Just my 2 cents worth I liked the original Excalibur bow names l...

Re: How hot is too hot for you to hunt

I can deal with the heat for the most part, even the 90's, I am cold blooded. But when it gets hot I have to use a thermocell and I think that just tips off every deer in the area. As opposed to when I am bundled up like the abominable snow man and nothing could smell me...

Re: What's a shooter to you?

Where I hunt we are allowed something like 12 deer. I couldn't shoot that many if I wanted to. I hunt on a small piece of property and there are numerous hunters around me and it seems most have the "if it's brown it's down" mentality. Because of that I don't see many, what I would call, mature buck...

Re: Axiom strikes big one like lightning

Wow! It's a shame your bow isn't faster, you might be able to kill a big deer...oh, never mind
Beautiful animal!!!
Just goes to show, it's all about shot placement! Don't have to get hung up on speed...
