thunder, here's an article detailing some of the stats re xbow use for deer in WI

Goose, THANKS!! for the link.

While I actually know the author, I didn't see the article (mostly because I gave up my Journal-Sentinel subscription when they wanted to double my rate last summer).

Re: Black Bear as tabel fair

I don't know that I could qualify as an "expert", but I've taken 4 black bear between 230 & 410 lbs and ate them all. Handled, processed and cooked correctly the steaks/loins are excellent, one of my favorite wild game meats. Bear makes excellent sausage, especially pepperoni. (Just ate a couple pep...
I’m concerned about my sanity. Currently, owning 2 M405s, a M380 and a BD400, I’d order one of those 405s except I want to still be married on this upcoming Aug 3 for my 50th wedding anniversary
I hear you Steve, if I didn't already have 2 405's I'd be all over that deal. I had to st...

Re: Wisconsin Crossbow Trial time frame ending

Maybe you WI residents can enlist Ravin’s help for continuing inclusion. They seem to have your best interest at heart. Yeah, the ironic part is that two of the "100 yard" crossbow manufacturers are located here in WI, Mission and Ravin. I hope they step up to the plate if necessary when it counts.

Re: Wisconsin Crossbow Trial time frame ending

I thought about this some-what, and my questions is: How is it proven what method of archery you used to take a kill? What if a certain group decided they wanted to pad the # of crossbow kills by saying they shot a bolt instead of a arrow from a compound knowing that the review is coming up ?? In W...

Re: Wisconsin Crossbow Trial time frame ending

Regarding number of WI tags, I have a patrons license which covers both Bow and Crossbow and I hunt NW WI. I got one bow or crossbow buck tag. (and one gun buck tag.) If I wanted an anterless tag, in my area of the state you could buy 1 per day at a cost of $12, until the quota for that county ran o...

Re: Wisconsin Crossbow Trial time frame ending

Are they just talking about limiting the season or are they talking about shortening the amount of time a crossbow can be used during bow season. Either way its a joke theres way more deer in wisconsin than we need and fewer kids are hunting now days less and less every year. Deer kills are on par ...

Wisconsin Crossbow Trial time frame ending

Three years ago WI enacted a 3 year "trial" period to use crossbows during the overlapping "bow" season. The timeframe to review that is coming up. I have heard from knowledgeable sources (don't ask me what or who because I cannot reveal that) that there will be a move afoot to somehow restrict or l...

I think it's amazing how these things tend to multiply in the house. I just ended up with my third one in less than three months, a brand new Matrix 350SE. I think I need therapy. You’re just starting to get sick! That’s what scares me! AND NOW, he has a nice new Vortex XBR to put on th...

Yes. But it will bring the bow closer to you when you're cocking, increasing the cocking effort somewhat.
Well, in my case anyway, I'm 6' 7" (and 285 lbs) so the cocking length usually isn't an issue, but getting size 13 insulated pac-type boots into the stirrup is.
