Re: Crossbow Market

Based on what I read from compound crossbow user experiences, they do require fairly regular adjustments to keep the cams timed. It seemed to me that it was a constant exercise for people who shot often. I have a press that can handle crossbows, even reverse draw crossbows, and I still went with an ...

Re: Tag Soup.

I enjoy watching deer of all sizes and wildlife of all varieties so much that I am always making excuses not to shoot, whether it's deer or turkeys, bucks or does. Last year I didn't tag a buck during bow season but I witnessed some absolutely amazing incidents because I passed up previous opportuni...

Re: Mo.'s Firearms Youth Hunt

Wisconsin has an early youth gun deer hunt but most don't participate in it. However, I think the idea in general is good given that the temperatures are more comfortable and the atmosphere is more relaxed than it will be a month later during the regular gun deer season. Some of these ages seem craz...

Congratulations. A quick kill is the best trophy of all. You can hunt the big one with a camera and have (nearly) just as much fun.

That's awesome. There's nothing more exciting hunting deer than being on the ground and having one walk in that close. Congratulations.

Re: I mmmmissed a big one

I missed a big 8 with my recurve last year. Second guessed my aim and shot over its back ... at 15 yards. I know a trad bow is different than a crossbow but the pain and disappointment isn't. I relive the shot every day pretty much and I'm sure you'll do the same with this shot. That's why it's call...

I used to hunt some of the Louisiana WMAs as well, although I was north of Lafayette. Congratulations on your deer.

Re: Sells themselves!!

If he does like the Bulldog, give the seller this sales pitch. Say you've read about these bows on forums and they aren't making their advertised speeds. They're essentially a 380. And in fact, Excalibur is coming out with the Bulldog 380 in a couple of months and the list price (MAP actually) of th...

Re: Sells themselves!!

If he's in relatively good shape he can easily cock and shoot 20+ times a session. My compound bow wears me out a lot quicker than the Bulldog does. I've done 40-50 shot sessions with no issues. Have him shoulder and shoot a few different models at a store if possible. Maybe he'd prefer the compactn...

Re: Montana decoys working

Wish I had a decoy a few nights ago. I saw an eight pointer thrashing a tree about 120 yards away across a little washout and then uphill. I wanted to see how my new grunt tube worked so I gave a series of grunts. The 8 pointer immediately walked downhill towards me and brought along a 10 pointer th...

Re: Aligning Broadheads with Fletchings

I try to match broadhead blades to vanes, too, (doing so while making the arrows and bolts to begin with). But honestly, when using quality components with a tuned bow, I never saw a benefit from achieving it, other than it looking cool and playing with my mind. I've shot fixed blade heads, 150 grai...

Re: In pursuit of quiet...

From what I've read, the Sims LimbSaver stuff eventually falls off the bow. I have read that happening for both the mushroom shaped limbsavers placed on the limbs and the stick on strips placed either on the stirrup or the rail.
