Excalibur Broadheads B.A.T help!

Postby OL'Coach » Wed Sep 25, 2013 8:11 am

First post, I am new to the crossbow world and recently bought a Matrix 380. I also picked the Excalibur fixed blade broadheads(wanted to shoot 150 grain) and was looking for tips to tune them. Also anyone know of a good broadhead target? thanks

You have to use a Bolt Cutter BH.You gonna tune to your arrow's or the bow it self?
My Field point's shoot the same with Boltcutter's.I shoot custom Arra's though ,So my tuning is tuned to the Arra.
I can put a Field Point in the Shaft,They Shoot the same as a BH.
I am a 1/2'' low at 60 yard's with BH.My up to 48 yard's is dead ringer with same set up.

are you referring to using bolt cutter broadheads? that is what I using. I dont know much about changing brace height and really dont want to mess with my crossbow til i become a little more familiar with it. I have shot remarkable groups out to 50 yrds with the field points, just wondering what I shuld expect out of the bolt cutters and how important is the tuning process that is described on the package? I am using the Diablos that come with the bow.

X3 on the Rinehart target.

So much depends on arrow setup as to whether the BHs will hit exactly with the FPs. To me it makes sense that a BH might hit a bit lower due to increased drag over a FP. So if that happens, no big deal just adjust the scope. But if it's off in windage, then you need to look at the arrow. Things to try:
1) square the insert
2) align the spine of the arrows the same - try using a different cock vane
3) on a 3 blade head, align the clades to the vanes. A small rubber O ring sometimes works and keeps you from having to turn the inserts or refletch.

Don't assume your fixed blade BHs will fly the same as a FP Test everyone - at least once to verify.

All that being said, I shoot fixed blade heads over mechanicals all day

I guess I'm fortunate enough to have a hunting bow and a target bow.
My target bow I dedicate to field points only.
My hunting bow sees nothing but a steady diet of broadheads.
I shoot every hunting arrow once to get a matching set of 6 hunting arrows.
Then sharpen blades with a fine grade diamond file.
When all blades cut a rubber band with little effort then all are good to go.

The reason I use the rubber band test is because veins and arteries have a rubber like characteristic. If the blades are dull they may cut meat and bone but the arteries and veins may slip by the blades.
