The quiet mode can also be used in cocking by------------placing the fingers of the
non cranking hand lightly over the ratchet arm as you are cranking almost no noise----------and my 73 year old ears have no problem hearing the trigger
engage. TO USE THE CRANK WITHOUT THE RATCHET ENGAGED IS REALLY
TEMPTING FATE.

Love mine the only downside (for me at least) is that it is not compatible with excals stock extender,otherwise a well made well thought out accessory IMHO
