Last 2018 buck with Axiom

Post by XB I GO » Mon Jan 22, 2018 1:14 pm

I went out Friday afternoon in the rain. A buck that had never been seen on our camera came in. At 20 yards I hit him through the lungs. I waited 10 minutes and called Dad. We followed blood for about 20 yards and it seemed to end. Then it started to really pour down and the blood washed away. We went back in the morning but could not find the deer. I drove my bike everywhere I saw buzzards even 2 miles away, but no deer. We went back Sunday and looked everywhere. There were a lot of coyotes on our camera so we figured the deer wasn't too far but still didn't see it. Today during lunch break I went to look again. This time there was a buzzard in the tree right where we lost the blood trail. I went over there and another bird flew up off the ground. I found my buck! He was under some bushes and thick downfall just 25 or 30 feet from where the blood trail stopped. The animals ate all the back end and all through the ribcage. No meat for me, but at least it is feeding nature. I did take the antlers and filled out a tag.

That was very mature of you to cut your tag. Many would have walked away without tagging or regrets. If you are ever in southern B.C I. Would consider it an honor to hunt with you. Good job.

I learned a hard lesson about coyotes also this year. It stinks around these parts we really didn't have em before but now the "bass-turds"are here to stay.
