Ladderstand dang near got me

Post by sproulman » Thu Nov 23, 2017 8:25 pm

Had help putting up my ladderstand usually I do it myself.Friends said you can climb up and secure top to tree we will hold the ladder ..I said dont we have to put bar in middle first? :?:

They said no we will hold it ..
well up I went and all of sudden the sections buckled and I fell backwards holding ladder from up 15 ft .

Everyone was screaming heck I was one falling not them..
I fell into laural still holding the ladder  while those experts  were screaming and all fell on top of me.. :x It was like being in high school football game again I was hurt and 500 pds of stupid meat heads on top of me

Why I listen to some people is beyond me they almost got me out for good...63 years old I must be one tough bugger to go thru this and I am going out buck hunting monday using my Summit climber in same tree

Happy Thanksgiving to you all....

Sportsman Guide sells a kit to help one put up a ladder stand for 45.00 you should look into that. it is a lot cheaper than a broken back. be safe

Glad your ok sproul, I’m getting where I don’t trust myself, my friends or especially the manufactures so much anymore. Reverting back to using ground blinds more often now.

Stay safe

yep - after setting up the first ladder stand and have it shift a little when the guy up 15 ft. , trying to ratchet to tree while trying to fling and grabbing to get strap.

We learned it was much safer to secure the middle support pole to the tree first. that way it might slip a little left and right but not over backwards.

after the 4 th one we had a technique that only took a few minutes. we also learned that the hunter should tighten ratchstrap ,after a few trips up and down.

Glad you survived the ordeal but no more climbers for me. or strap on ladders .

these newer double man stands are the only way. plenty room- I can even have the bars hold the crossbow securely and have room to stand and stretch easily . which helps with old bones and joints trying to sit as still as possible for hrs on end.

Thanks friends ..It was mentioned about 2 man stands..YOU ARE RIGHT.Those 1 man are terrible ..I sat in 2 man one at camp what a difference..Lots of room, you can take nap, much safer they are on sale for 70 bucks and new ones have brackets over joints to make them strong and shooting rail..

Here is best MOST THAT STEAL will not remove a 2 man stand too much work to haul it out...

So next season I am going to 2 man stand and leaving meatheads home

LOL..You guys are funny at times..Anyhow I found way by MYSELF to secure ladderstand to tree..Not my idea saw it on youtube and it worked..

You tie rope on to the left top edge of stand where teeth are..After putting up stand take rope and go around tree to right side then tie it off on tree on ground or steps at bottom..It really helps hold stand to tree when you get too top to use strap ..

of course put bar in middle first..

let me make the one change for you - I do some fancy rope tying or I get an extra ratchet strap for this purpose- I've seen them come loose also

"secure " the middle bar first

I secure the middle bar, then go around the tree with a ratchet strap, and snug the poop out it. Never had a slip since then. I prefer my climbers and will use one as long as I can pack one.
