If they were in a separate class, why couldn't they compete? I don't think the O.P. meant for crossbows to go head to head with vertical recurves or compound bows?? I also don't think any 3 d shoot allows anything but off hand shooting in competition unless things have changed a lot since I attended...

Another factor is whether a deer is on full alert or just browsing or walking through. I always aim for the bottom part of a deer. If it doesn't react , it's a heart shot .
