My kinda thinkin' !! I do the same thing but I'm shooting RamCats now.
Favorites
Ramcat 125
Slick Trick (150 xbow, 125 magnum, 100 std)
Magnus 2 blade 150 (here piggy, piggy)
Montecs fly great..really consistent, but I cannot get them really sharp and this contributes to less blood IMO. But I put one through both shoulders of a mature doe a few years ago. She didn't go far at all but there was zero blood. Of course that is a bit of a fwd shot so maybe I'm unfairly blaming the head. Used these on the first bison too at the outfitters suggestion. Performed well with no damage at all.
I am also a big fan of Montecs but like most have fought the frustration of getting them sharp. I am too hard headed to to just get over something like this so i kept trying until I can now have the old style SS Montecs scary sharp in 3-4 minutes per head. Follow the basic instructions from the link below but make the following changes to the materials.
http://www.g5outdoors.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/diamond-stone-instructions.pdf
I start with a 600 grit diamond stone for about 10 strokes on all three sides then repeat the process using 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper then 2500 grit paper then finally about 30 strokes per side on 9000 grit (.5 micron) paper.
This will give you a mirror finish on the edges that is incredibly scary sharp.

Nice!! I'll give it a try. If I could get them shaving sharp I think that would help the blood trails.

Re: Favorite broadheads?
Here is how the old style stainless Montecs look when I finish with them Keith. I wear Kevlar glove when I get to the final two sharpening stages.

Re: Favorite broadheads?
Will they shave your arm? Maybe my trouble is that I have the Montec CS which is carbon steel.......

Re: Favorite broadheads?
Not only will they shave your arm but will cut a slightly stretched rubber band with just their own weight.

I use a woodsman 150 gr and it puts them down quick.
Re: Favorite broadheads?
I used the Fixpandable broad head on my doe a few weeks back, it is a fix and expandable head, also the Dead Ringer Trauma & X-Act, all expandable's.
