I own a Vortex. And after shooting it I notice the black marks my serving makes up near the riser and past the brace marks. I know the dampeners are coming out, and will stop the sting,but it seems like it's slapping. Almost more power stoke.? It's dead nuts ,so it don't affect accuracy. Serving is waxed. Will dampeners affect speed. What do all think?

they say thay won,t affect speed.won,t slap as bad with dampeners.they all get black marks on riser.i keep brace hieght close to top mark.not quite as fast but mabey dosn,t slap riser as hard.

All recurves will leave a black mark on the riser as the string (and serving) go past the draw lenght, unless you have bumpers. Black is from your serving wax. Not to worry. It's normal.

The lower the brace height on your bow the more likely it will be that it slaps the riser. You can bring up your brace height or if you like it where its set now you can just buy the dampners. I have found that the dampners make a almost unnoticable difference as far as fps and poi.

Not to worry, many of the Excal strings slap the riser.
The black marks are residue left from the string wax and will wipe right off.
The string stoppers will elimate the issue of the string slapping the riser and will not effect performance.
