Trophy Ridge XV530iR has arrived.... Wow !

Post by L. E. Carroll »

I saw these mentioned here in the Crossbow Hunting forum as being available thru Ebay for $ 104.99 including shipping. I just had to pull the trigger on one, to see what all the hype was about, as guys mentioned them being very similar to, if not the same as Hawke XB30 pros. ( Which happen to be my favorite scopes ) 8)

I found this to indeed be the case in addition to having a lifetime warranty, similar to that of Hawke to the original buyer.

I quickly ordered one and began the wait, as the free shipping is via UPS. :| and a bit slower than the USPS.

My first impression is that to my old eyes it appears to be a " mirror image " of my 2 current XB30's down to the Hawke name on the bottom of the 30 mm scope tube.

It includes a set of their very nice Hawke flip up aluminum scope covers, and in addittion comes with a very nice set of 30mm rings which I don't remember getting with my XB's. Initially I was afraid this model would have the 10 preset illumination settings but this is not the case...as it has a fully adjustable, ( but perhaps somewhat brighter ) illumination feature across the whole range of illumination adjustment.

I have removed the C/bones from my Matrix 380 to allow scopes with similar illumination and features on all 3 of my Excals. This new scope looks and fits very nicely with easily obtainable clarity and eye relief as there seems to be plenty of forward and backward location options available.

Those familair with XB30 pro's would be aware of the 2 different main crosshair variations. The older having a full circle around the main 20 yd.cross hair with the very top being a 10 yard referance aiming point and the very bottom of the circle being your 30 yard aiming point when the scope is dialed in for speed... The newer model XB simply uses a standard main cross hair allowing no 10 yard referance and a simple crosshair below the main 20 yard one for 30 yards.

Both new and old models I find equally easy to use and enjoy the fully adjustable illumination feature available all the way down thru 60 yards, then going on down to 100 yards but without illumination beyond 60.

The only thing I can mention making it different, would be the slightly different recticle.

This one is very nicely configured as a standard main crosshair, but also including that top 1/2 of a circle like on the original XB's to again be used as a 10 yard referance point, but not extending lower than the horizontal line on the main crosshair. A standard crosshair somewhat lower is the 30yd aming point after the scope has been dialed in for speed.

I can only report that I am so impressed that I see another order going out tomorrow for another as a "Back Up" in the gun safe.

I would encourage those of you looking for what I personally to be a quality, illuminated scope ( which is IMO, far superior to the well known Taczone at less tan 1/2 the price ) to check this one out before they are gone.

Thanks for the review. I like my XB30 pro's as well. So far I have found no other crossbow specific scope that even comes close to its features..

Thanks for the review, sounds like I made a good decision to buy them. The two I ordered arrived last week and are still in their boxes. Looking forward to getting some time to get them on the bows.

Great review Gene. I feel the same way about them. For the money they can’t be beat in my opinion, so much so that my second one has replaced the vortex on my bd400.

I am totally Scope happy at the moment for the first time in a while. :eusa-dance: :eusa-dance:

Gene you are correct about them being a tad bright when new. I have seen several of the guys that got one last deer season to hunt with say that they took out the new battery and swapped it for a used one out of their auto FOBs and it did a much better job on the low end for brightness control.

Sounds like a great deal on an excellent scope.

I have 4 Excals. 2 have Optimizers/2-8 Zeiss Duralyts, 2 had Zeiss XB75s, now only 1 has and the other has the TR530IL.
To me, it’s the best dedicated xbow scope on the market! I like the simpler reticle.
I use the deprecated battery also. Just don’t turn it on until about ready to shoot. There’s not much juice left once it starts dropping power.

This scope would be perfect, IMO with better glass and a lower light reticle. However, for this price, it’s an excellent value and it’s glass is very close to the much more expensive Zeiss XB75.

Has anyone compared it side by side and very close up to the XB30? There must be some internal difference, or glass possibly. Or else why would a company deflate its own sales like that? Maybe a batch of reticles they decided not to run with and batched them out cheap to a wholesaler?

   Jansey
I'll let you tear your's apart to check out internals and quality inside  I'm happy with this latest one just as it is 8) ... It looks to mirror my XB30's with the exception of the slight variation in the recticle, which I happen to appricate as it allows me an additional 10 yard aiming referance point.

I can tell you it is labeled "Hawke" under the main tube and carries a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser and at $ 104.99 I'm a pretty happy camper.

For those of you that have this scope do you think it will be brighter than my Twilight DX on my M405? I was thinking of buying a Hawke XB30Pro before next season. Thanks in advance
