Portable ladderstand

Post by longbow joe »

A few years back l purchased a leverage ladderstand l paid a lot for the telescoping wonder it was built top notch but unfortunately it was not "portable "
Very heavy not something you wanna carry in for the day as nixing the reason I purchased it to begin with.
I figured if l put it up permanently it would more than likely "grow feet" even with a chain.
I exchanged the top of another old api stand l had in the garage and shortened the telescoping ladder to around 12 feet.
It's just enough for me to get up a tree for a 3 hour hunt in the evening or morning and weights 18 pounds.
It's short enough to the trunk that l can swing and shoot behind me too.
I have a short motorcycle style tie down strap l can telescope up and settled in less than 5 minutes.
In my favorite swamp l rarely go more than 12 feet any higher you actually loose visibility.
I'm gonna use the crap outta this little thing.

Simple snap pins are very easy to raise and store

I can actually fold the platform but it's so light weight now l probably never will.
Actually weights less than my viper climbing setup.

My Dad had a ~10ft ladder stand that he loved and hated. It was made out of steel tubing and was about as portable as one could get back in the early 80's. He killed a lot of deer out of it, but he cussed it equally the same. He complained that the portability was its curse. Every time he would have a couple deer cross 75-100 yards away from his stand, he'd eventually climb down and move the stand closer to where they crossed. He wondered if he would have had a lot better luck if he actually sat in it more than moving it around so much.

That looks like a perfect little ladder to sneak in and make a surprise hunt.

I noticed novix makes a "portable " ladder this year ....its $700 dollars !!! And it weights 47 freaking pounds when will someone invented a true ultralight one.
Duckhunt your father probably had a loc on Titan ladder they were pretty good and very lite weight but the tube sections were a pain in the butt and noisey.
