Just got home from a week in southern michigan hunting. Saw lots of turkey and shot a nice tom but for deer the amount of rubs and scrapes that are fresh was crazy but in 4 all day sits I never saw one deer. I thought for sure I would see a few out in daylight but everything seems to be after dark.
Very interesting for you to say this as an out of state hunter it echoes my experience and i have lived my whole life in Michigan.
The rubs and scrapes were not here a week ago and I have been hunting for a decent Doe since Oct 1st and have not had any encounters with a doe at all.
Seeing lots of deer in NE WI but shooters are too far away or in too thick of cover. We won’t shoot does til after rut. Put my nephew on a food plot with green light for a doe but I won’t highjack the thread with that story n my take that a fixed head would have resulted in a recovery.
Missouri youth season was last weekend and there were a little over 5k MORE deer harvest this year than last year, something like 18k total harvest in one weekend.
Harvest numbers are definitely not down in my state. I took a small buck with my Micro 355 about two weeks ago. Nothing to brag about, so I haven't posted it.
They are plentiful in my part of Missouri
but I have not hunted in 2 yrs. now, I always take at least 2-3 deer every year
been seeing lots of deer in front of the house, bucks/does population very strong here.
youth season had a good harvest here in Dallas county.

Yup I usually see over 20 does everyday in the fields and shot a nice 8 point last year. Also saw 2 more shooters so expecting a good hunt. Buddy has lots of night pics and his night light behind the house where he has several bird feeders goes off all night with deer crossing through not sure why they are not moving in the day must be the lack of bait making them noctornal lol
I have been seeing some good deer at home and buddy down the road shot to 170 class bucks . Wife laughs at me says you should have hunted here I guess I shall see this week if she has the last laugh. It seems a switch for me usually see a ton of deer in Michigan and very few here at home but this year deer all over the place at home go figure.
In my area of the state we really don't have that many deer the figure the state wildlife has is 5 or less deer per square mile . As the state wildlife sold the deer herd out to reduce it by selling as many doe tags as you wanted years ago and the herd never recovered . Zones north of here the deer numbers per square mile are much lower . So if we see a lot of deer we consider ourselves lucky .Our harvest numbers are also down . But east of here the numbers are way high like 15 plus deer per square mile mainly around the bigger cities and the Islands where the deer are eating them selves out . Where getting permission to hunt almost always does not happen .

I haven’t been hunting either, taking care of a sick wife.
Hunting is on the back burner.
