Re: Happy Easter

Happy Easter Everyone.

I celebrate my faith in Jesus on this day. Yes in general people have been moving away from religion SEW and in my opinion respectfully I don't think the world is a better place for it.....

Re: Are we nuts?

Yes we are nuts. I think we'd all like put a fatal shot in any animal we see from any distance. You'd need a bow that shot at 3000 fps to do that and as they say be careful what you wish for. I think hunting could get to be more work than fun if we could make that true. I think the fun comes when I ...

Re: Arrows and accuracy

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I will try some of the stiffer spined arrows like zombie or spinal tap. I saw the comment about aluminum arrows but I a little biased against those because of bending problems. I guess I'll use up my diablo arrows that in my hands are good out to 40 yards or s...

Arrows and accuracy

Hi Everyone, What is the best arrow to improve accuracy from a Matrix 380? Is spine indexing worth the trouble? I'd like to start using fixed blade broadheads and have tried the bolt cutters and they seem ok is there anything better? What about bisshop broadheads? I'd also like to get my arrow weigh...

Re: Most Sought After '18

I think the assassin will be the most talked about and it will be a good seller. Most of us old former bow hunters know the value of durable equipment and the compound crossbows are not. However, many bow hunters tend to overvalue speed and with a recurve crossbow speed means higher draw weight espe...

Re: Cross stix

Cross stix works very well for me. With my Matrix 380 and sock Diablo arrows I can easily do 3 inch groups at 50 yards. What I like about them is that unlike a monopod they can stand on their own. They are easy to adjust and pretty light.. I use then with my climing tree stand as support as well..

Re: How much cutting diameter makes a differnce?

I have a hunting buddy who uses fixed blades(4 blade muzzy 1.1 inch) and I use mechanicals (1.5 inch spitfires) and we've been hunting together on and off over 17 years. Basically if you pull off a perfect double lung or heart shot they both work great. The mechanical works better for liver shots an...

Re: Is anyone deer hunting at 100+ yards?

The 100 yard shoot really boils down to the math. Even with the fastest of crossbows, at 100 yards, it will take the arrow more than 0.75 seconds to reach its target. Even if you execute a prefect shot and the arrow goes exactly where you aim, the probability is high the deer will have moved by the ...

Re: Another look at 100 yard shooting

This year I went from vertical compound bow (took about 50 deer this way over 17 years) to crossbow. With the compound 30 yards was my limit and this is based on my skill as an archer. The crossbow is still very new to me and so far 30 yards is the longest shot I've taken. I've taken 3 deer this yea...

Re: Another look at 100 yard shooting

I guess you can pick up some emotion from what I said above. This emotion stems from a strongly held value that the animals we kill and eat should be killed as quickly and efficiently as we can. I think it is awful when an animal has to spend the last few hours/days/months of its life wounded and in...

Re: Another look at 100 yard shooting

Archery hunting is about getting up close and personal with your prey. If you want a 100 yard shot get a rifle. Even at the present state of the art, the chances of wounding an animal are too high no matter what the skill level. Why wound a deer just to prove a point... If you want to shoot at stil...

Re: Is anyone deer hunting at 100+ yards?

Emphatically no. If you want to shoot deer at that distance use a rifle. Even at 400+ fps it takes an arrow takes too long to reach the target. If a deer moves even a little, at worst you have wounded a deer instead of an ethical kill and at best you completely miss. In the unlikely event the deer s...

Re: Spitfire Performance

2 mnths ago, I shot a relatively large buck with a classic heart shot. Down within 50 yds. Nice passthru and blood trail. 446g arrow, 92 g insert, 125g SF, ~368’/sec. Yesterday, same xbow, etc, shot a mature doe, about the same distance, 44 yards, mid chest shot, about 3-4 “ higher than ideal, look...
