Bob, That is an excellent read on angle shooting, I suppose my device could be considered a digital cut chart. Mike, I was thinking it would be great to be able to shrink it down a bit more as this is the prototype on my breadboard and it is very large, it could be shrunk quite a bit more with surfa...

Dick, It was actually a post about rangefinding a month ago that got me to thinking http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=27267&highlight= wherein ManX had a link that showed how to calculate the compensation for yardage based on the angle. This is the link and hopefully it wil...

Angle Range Compensation

This is a little electronic project that I got around to building. It basically figures out what the actual distance is to your target based on the angle. The top line shows what the line of sight distance would be as in what a regular rangefinder would show and the bottom line is the angle correcte...

Lightfoot, Welcome and here are a few thoughts I had on how to build a multistage crossbow. I would think that it would be a bit easier to achieve higher arrow velocities using a multistage crossbow design. It would look much like a crossbow stacked on top of another crossbow. The first stage bow wo...

Undertaker, I would take a look at the following to give you a little more idea as to what is happening to the arrows on release. You don't need to follow the math through as long as you take a look at the sketch at the bottom of this site http://www.tech.plym.ac.uk/sme/desnotes/eulerderiv1.htm and ...

My sight is set for a deer that is 18 inches from belly to back and 13 inches across the ribcage. I model the body as an ellipse as opposed to just a circle that way if the deer is directly under you the distance you would be measuring is the measurement across the ribcage, this makes it a bit more ...

First off, welcome to the forum. I am an advocate of bracketing / mechanical rangefinding and used this method to harvest my very first crossbow deer. Not sure if you came across my previous posting that covers the work that I have done on this method of rangefinding. http://www.excaliburcrossbow.co...

Scope Alignment

The following is the best method that I have been able to devise to get my reticle aligned to the bow. Once you have your eye relief set then you can remove the stock and using a set of calipers the final alignment can be performed. Using the precision machined rail as the reference plane, you can r...

Fuzzy, There was a thread on shimming up the front riser that would have about the same end result of reducing friction on the string. http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=22534&highlight=shim The majority of serving wear will occur right where the two claws engage the string....

Michigan DNR updates on crossbow regulations

Looking around on the Michigan DNR's website I found the following new posts on the crossbow regulations. Quoted from http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153--210298--,00.html "Natural Resources Commission Votes to Expand Crossbow Hunting Opportunities March 11, 2009 New crossbow regulations r...

The 3 Volt pin batteries come in two different sizes that should work, the BR425 and BR435. The BR425's are rated at 25mAh and weigh about 8.5 grains. The BR435's are rated at 50mAh and weigh about 13.1 grains. The battery cases are basically the same with the larger being 10mm longer. If you are lo...

Smoke, I am not saying that it will be 3fps loss for every 10grs increase, I was trying to figure out why the posts on arrow weights being around 500grs total seemed to be the "sweetest" shooting weight. In order to get the math model for kinetic energy being maximized at this weight I use...
