Arrow weight for maximum kinetic energy

I was curious to know if anyone had taken the time to play with their arrow weight and a chrony and found out at what grain weight they were getting the most kinetic energy out of their bow. The lightest arrow mass of 350 grains also seems to be the loudest, which implies a lot of energy is being lo...

Dan, A fletching stripper is a tool used for arrow making/repair to help in the removal of fletchings and glue from the arrow shaft. You can use a sharp utility knife for this, but I find it a lot easier to accidentally gouge into the shaft doing it this way as opposed to using something like the Zi...

It looks like the alleged $13,000 sale of this deer never actually happened. Still it is a very unique harvest.

ComfyBear, First I will need a bit more info from you, first what are the starting temps of your ice, water, container, and surrounding atmosphere. What are the dimensions of your holding vessel, as this will greatly change the amount of expansion that will remain due to surface tension or crowning a...

CB, I concur that you have covered the four possible scenarios, the one I went with was based on the feeling of this question being phrased in the context of a classical Newtonian physics sense. The point of which is to emphasize the fact that the velocity in the direction parallel to the ground is ...

They hit at the same time, assuming that you drop the second one at the same instant that the first is exiting the barrel.

Bill,

Here is an inexpensive method of rangefinding for bowhunting that I posted previously. It works great for ranging deer. If you would like help building one for yourself, pm me.

The unibushings by themselves will likely not work very well as they do not have as much of a flat area as an insert for the string to push against. The serving on the string will only be in contact with the two small edges of the bushing. This will cause a greater amount of pressure at the point of...

I would try getting ahold of some parachute cord (550 cord). Most military surplus stores will carry the stuff. It is about 1/8th of an inch in diameter. I replaced the factory rope on the cocking aid and have been using it with my exomag without any problems for the past few years. -M http://www.ca...

You will also need to come up with an extension piece to keep the arrow in place.

One option to try would be to decrease the amount you are drawing back the bow with the use of a second string that attaches to your regular string. This second loop of string is then pulled back and is held in place by the claws in the trigger mechanism. I was thinking a piece of the 550 parachute ...

Norm,

How well are the coatings holding up on the rail? Have you seen any noticeable wear or thinning from the string or arrow along the rail?

Arrow Wrap Substitute

I wanted to know if anyone here has tried using either standard heat shrink or the adhesive lined heat shrink tubing instead of arrow wraps and then fletching directly to the tubing. This should make for an arrow that will clean up very easily when it comes time to refletch.

Teflon Coatings

I came across this site the other day while reading about muzzleloading and was curious if anyone here had seen any pieces that have had this applied. The site says that they have applied the Teflon coating to aluminum dutch ovens. If they can do aluminum then they might be willing to do a black coa...
