2010 Crossbow test Results
I just got done reading the Outdoor Life Sept issue. The Vortex was on their charts as a very good buy. They did give it some c/c+ rating in safety, trigger feel and price/value. Now with that being said, I am the owner of 3 crossbows. One of them being that c/c+ rated Vortex. I also have a older Ho...

A friend of a friend happened to stop to look at the deer when the bear came out of the woods and attacke...

Re: Custom Made Vortex X-Bow Stock (Progress)
Here is a quick update. I am working on the Butt of the stock only. I wanted to get this done first and then work on the rest. I did not decide on a scene as of yet, so I just threw a few trees together with an elk. Not sure If I like the basket weave on the grip. I may do a quick fish scale and see...

Re: Custom Made Vortex X-Bow Stock (Progress)
I am now going to do a little redesign to make it more fitting for me. I want to add some 3D art work to the butt of the stock as well. I made this coat/hat rack for my basement and I want to add this woods scene to the blank area of the stock butt. I also did some cabinet doors for a customer with ...

Re: Custom Made Vortex X-Bow Stock (Progress)
For the next step, I printed out a scaled down stock with the 3D printer (blue) and I milled one out of a piece of oak on my cnc machine. I only did half the stock since it is the same on both sides (for now). This was pretty thin since it was scaled down as well. I will be cutting a full sized one ...

Custom Made Vortex X-Bow Stock (Progress)
Well I Going to backtrack a little to show what I did so far. Again if you missed the post of what I am trying to do, I will be making a custom wood stock for my vortex. The first step was to get the original stock into a so called digital format. I used my 3D laser scanner to scan the stock. This w...

Re: Making My Own Stock for My Vortex..
Well I have been teaching for 15 years. I started teaching the CNC field for about 11 years. After seeing what I could do with the machine and software, I purchased my own equipment for the house in 2003. I will never claim to be the best at anything, but from my experience it is not the machine. It...

Re: Making My Own Stock for My Vortex..
I use a combination of a few. Solidworks, Vectorworks and Corel. ArtCam Pro is the main software used for most of my 3D work and processing the g-codes. If there is any Cad junkies here, I got a CNC mill at home and seven at work. I also have a 3D printer. I already used the 3D printer to print a fe...
