Cheap scope or wrong scope? Using a crossbow scope that is parallex free at bow ranges makes all the difference. I don't hear too many complaints from using the VariZone by Excalibur. I love mine! IMHO Taxman's problem had nothing to do with parallax. Parallax refers to how the crosshairs ap...

I had the same question at one time. Both are good shafts. I chose Gold Tips with brass inserts mainly because that is what my local archery shop stocked and I knew it would be convenient for me to to get more bolts made up in the future.

On my rifles I have found that sizing scope caps can be tricky thing. I once tried ordering by mail the manufacturer's recommended size caps and when I got them they still didn't fit right. They are like shoes; you've got to try them on.

Oneshot,

I use half moons on my Exocet. I had them recommended to me by two different competition shooters, one of whom shoots a Pheonix. Though I'm not sure that at my skill level they make a noticable difference.

That's a nice average Excalibur group  !

The irony (and hypocracy) of being exclusively vegetarian is that their lifestyle is only made possible through free trade, genetically modified foods and the globalization of the economy and; all issues which left-wing vegetarian types typically rally against. Our native peoples were not vegetarian...

Grizzled47,

Well said! The head of a leading Canadian hunters' organization once said to me years ago that one of the most frustrating things about his job is the inherently factious tendancies of the hunters that his group represents.

Now there's a prime example of stringing together some terminology that sounds like it is saying something important, but which in reality means abosulutely nothing!

Since April I have been going to a local range once a month, sometimes twice, to shoot targets (20, 30, 40 & 50 yards) and to shoot 3D (20 stations). Through practice, better bolts/vanes and a new Vari-zone scope I have gone from hitting a pie plate to "robinhooding" during this time-f...

This particular discussion is for craftsmen. You know if you are or aren't one. You don't need anyone to tell you. Bob bstout, I couldn't agree with you more. A treestand is a cantilevered structure that is the only thing supporting a person 12-20 feet off the ground. You rely ENTIRELY on the integ...

Your points about safety are well taken. We have all seen those nailed together little stands in the woods and wondered how much longer they will support a person. My advice to anyone making a home made wooden hang on stand is do not use any nails or drywall screws. Use lag bolts, carriage bolts, de...

You are right, John, the top is chained and tightened with a turnbuckle. For stability at the bottom I use a heavy black nylon rope that passes through holes on either side (you can see one hole at the bottom left of the stand in the pic) and is tied around the tree with a trucker's knot. Another al...

Home Made Treestands

Picking up on the "Hang on Treestands" thread in this forum, as well as a thread at The Ontario Hunting Lodge forum, let's see some pics of those do-it-yourself treestands you guys have been talking about. I just finished 3 hang on stands that are based on some plans I found on the web. Th...

Thanks Tom! I know the limb cracking problem you are referring to. Another friend of mine used to have one of these crossbows and I remember it loosing fibreglass off the front. I had also heard from someone else that the old Daco crossbows could split at the front end of the stock when being cocked...
