Re: Bear hunting in Ontario 2013.

What kind of feedback ? why this thread ? If your wondering if it was shitty year Yes it was and to a lot of hunters. The bears didn't want to stay with baits and the season was short as the highest population headed for dens early. This worries me because what kind of Late Fall/winter are going to ...

Re: Arrow weights ?

Thanks but forget about it. I'll test them on deer in the late season if I get the chance. Bear hunting is done and out of 10 baits not one hit this week. I would say as I have before, I believe hibernation starts at this time of year and they are starting to thin out...

Arrow weights ?

OK , I went to BP last night and bought the 150gn Boltcutters. Today I decided to try them and used both 2216 aluminum arrows and the fire bolts. It seems to me that the firebolts had a touch more penetration into the target on every test shot. Are these firebolts close to the same weight as the alu...

Re: Old Carve tip Bows what broadheads ?

Thanks Guys ! Sometimes I need help and it looks as all you fello Excalers have did just that. A point was brought up that I never even thought of I was using 100 gn broadheads because I'm just used to them. I'll see if I can find some 125's and resite....

Re: Old Carve tip Bows what broadheads ?

Compounds , he is talking about is his vertical . Adrian likes to play a lot with different weapons . Even sub-gauges for turkeys . :) Adrian you may have had the unfortunate luck of hitting the rib dead on . Out of my Wolverine I have used 2216`s with a smaller fixed blade . You mean you u...

Old Carve tip Bows what broadheads ?

Well I see what I never wanted to see this past weekend. I own one of the old 165lb carved tip bows and it shoots like nothing else. The only problem I see is that this bow does not have the energy to force the blades open and drive the arrow in as a deep or pass through shot in animals. I had a rea...

Re: Fall turkey tips?

The fall hunt was introduced for the population control of hens. Its not uncommon to take gobblers in the fall but on a high percentage they are taken by ambush or sudden shot situations. Family flocks are the norm for the fall turkey hunter that scopes out a flock and try's to break it up and have ...

Re: Treestand Safety

What a great Thread, and I am a true believer in a good harness. Being a part of the outdoors all my life and living in tree stands I can tell anyone that accidents happen quick and before you know it your passing the stand platform. 2 years ago it happened to me, once without a harness and once wit...

Re: Bear Hunting in Ontario

I moved two baits this weekend and surprisingly the bugs were not bad at all. A few more close to swamps but very good. One pc of advice to you all that are hunting. Do not bring that secret Bear smelling attractant to add to the baits sight. I have seen more baited hunts go sour when a new smell ap...

Re: New cooler

Paul, Don't have any Academy Sports in my area but I'm going to stop by Costco and see what they have. I was there the other day UPS and they had a $100.00 Igloo with a handle and wheels not sure the size but it was a large one, hold a couple 24's or 30 packs from where your from  the farthes...
