Re: Tick removal tool

That looks like a winner and similar to the one we use. Being in Virginia, I pull at least a dozen ticks a year (myself, kids, wife, dogs, visitors etc). We have used "Pro Tick Remedy" for years. Cheap, small and like others - I have them in my pack, the trucks, the house and work. Below i...

Re: What's a shooter to you?

I am part of a county reduction program in the parks - I take as many doe that present themselves with an ethical shot. County encourages it, and the meat is spectacular. As for buck...state limit to three per hunter, so I am a little picky prior to and during the rut, but after the rut and before t...

Re: OT: Why do you kill deer?

- Relaxation. Hunting brings happiness harvest or not. Life brings stress...hunting gives an opportunity to relax. Nothing like the woods coming alive or going to sleep at the start or end of a day...working and planning a hunt to get a shot adds further enjoyment. Like the age old "abad day on...

Re: Happy Memorial Day

Thank you! Im still active duty and I love my profession but it is always nice to see folks appretiative of the military.

Together we are all stronger - there remains evil in this world and one day at a time we challenge it to keep ourselves and children free.

Re: Ordering bling

Yup - Danny doesn't send you stuff you don't need, and will tell you things you didn't consider.

Calls to him are the ultimate help line. Have done business with him the entire time I have owned a crossbow and wouldn't go any place else.

Re: Why did you choose Excalibur?

For me...it is warranty, ease, self service and accuracy. They will all work, but with Excalibur you only have to visit a shop once - to buy it. After that its all self service until something breaks...and then its a simple email, explanation of the problem...and a few days later, they send you what...

Re: Wasp vs muzzy

Used to use muzzy and have also shot wasp but feel slick tricks are better then both. The former are readily available in local shops, slick sticks on line,

All are sharp and will put a deer down if well placed. I found better accuracy and consistency with slick tricks.

Re: Binoculars

We have owned a few pair over the years. Nikon Monarch are a good reasonable set. We did luck into a set os Swarovski Els and I can tell you that although they are stupidly priced, you get an extra 5-10 minutes of light gathering on them. For hunting, I am not sure they would be worth the price, but...

Re: Hot weather deer hunting help

In Virginia, if its warm (above 45) I have bought a big bag of ice, stuffed it into the cavity and then covered it with a sheet to keep any flies off. Never had a spoil issue. If its warmer, which is often in the early season, I skin and debone meat into 2.5 gallon ziplock bags and place i the fridg...

Re: Meat grinders

I use an older electric from Northern Tools. It looks identical to the Kitchner#22. I got it off CL and I put about 100-lbs of meat through it in a year and its going on ten years and all I did was replace the on/off switch which was pretty easy. Clumsy design but made strong (and heavy). It grinds ...

I have reused bolts dozens of times over the years. In the end for most of them, its the fletchings that retire the bolts. Having them re-fletched is always a toss up since I don't do them myself...sometimes I bring a bunch in to have them done, other times I just toss them. The occasional tree or r...

There actually has been a lot of studies that show the cholestorol in the foods you eat don't necessarily translate to increasing the cholestorol in your system, especially when looking at super foods like eggs. I had high cholestorol for years, but when I dropped 15lbs, and cleaned up the diet with...

Why you buy an Excalibur

They are tack drivers. They dial in easily, and are consistent. They are home/field serviceable. You can do all your own string work with ease. Their customer service have is beyond excellent. I had two concerns over the past 13 years and not only did they responded promptly, they went above and bey...

Re: Grim reaper didn't open! Pic added!

I have taken 10 deer in two years with GR mechanical BHs. Not a single issue with them opening or falling apart in my hands while putting on the shaft.

I also like them since I can replace the blades relatively easy which is much less expensive compared to complete BHs.
