Response to Mike P.

Yes Mike, you are right; I did study philosophy at another S.J. school, Gonzaga, in Spokane Washington. I think in recent years we had better basketball teams than Xavier. Gonzaga went to the final four (three years ago if I remember correctly) and lost to UCLA! What a disappointment. Peace and Best...

Outdoor Canada article

Finally, was able to get through and post my response. In case it doesn't get published here's my reply for what it's worth: Excellent article on crossbows. I shoot one; I also shoot a compound bow, and think the debate is completely a waste of time. All hunters should be banding together to preserv...

Meditations on Hunting

Have been reading this book by the Spanish philosopher, Ortega y Gasset. The book Jacket has this to say about it: " Meditations on Hunting is the only book that clearly defines the essence of hunting." Wilderness adventures Press is proud to have continuously published the only edition of...

Dan Miller plier style arrow puller

The bow shop in Kitchener used to sell them; I bought two pair over the phone a couple of years ago. Dan miller sells them for 12.00 dollars a pair. You can call him in the U.S. at 1-740-483-2312 or Fax him at: 1-740-483-2030. There is no on-line store. He is the one who directed me to the bow shop ...

Which bolt/arrows are people referring to?

I'm just wondering if the differing weights results from a comparison of different bolts/arrows. Easton makes two versions of the power bolt. the Carbon realtree power bolt shaft weighs 11.3 grains per inch which gives you a shaft wt of 226. Their insert and flatback knock total another 80 grains. T...

Arrow speed with phoenix bow

Just went out and tested two different arrows through my prochronograph. The first was a 436 gr (125 grain field point) Easton power bolt with 2" blazer vanes. It came in at 271 ft. per second. The Second was a 363 gr Gold tip laser II with 125 grain tip and 2" blazer vanes. It registered ...

I use a phoenix and I recommend the Rinehart 18 to 1 Broadhead target. It is expensive but last many times longer than other targets. The broadhead tester on the archer's edge web site stated, when asked about his use of the Rinehart that last year, he shot 300 arrows a day for 300 days out of the y...

Beman lightning bolt

It seems the Beman Thunder bolt is no more. Their web site shows only the ICS Lightning bolt. The only difference I see in the two is that the lightning bolt has a vibrake insert that is supposed to dampen vibrations in the arrow. Since I was successful with a thunder bolt last year I was a little d...

Firebolts

Just refleched an Easton made firebolt for a friend with 2" blazers. Will try it out this afternoon. Easton also makes their own bolt called a "powerbolt" The Firebolt made exclusively for Excalibur is 20+ grains heaver than the GT Laser II. I believe Easton's own "powerbolt"...

Cabela's & shipping costs

Have used Cabela's for many years and I always know where I stand re. costs. And if you have to return a purchase you just send it to a Windsor address. Their return policy is excellent as well. A class outfit as far as I'm concerned. UPS shipping costs as mentioned have always been a rip-off . Neve...
