for me it is a smoother operation(to release the grip, while still holding stock), my thumbhole mossberg has the safety in the same spot and find the safety a pain(not the end of the world mind you), but with my exomax only have to move my thumb, again just my preference

although i prefer the feel of the thumbhole stock the motion needed to disengage the saftey (having to release the grip) to me is not worth the trade off, just my prefernce which ever way you decide you'll be happy with an excal
