Re: Last day....
Tye I hope your last stand worked out , mine didn't. The ice on top of the snow seemed to shut down all wildlife near my stand as I made more noise than a construction crew getting in and removing the ice from my blind. That is just another variable that makes filling a tag so satisfying. I managed ...

Re: Last day....
Heading out around 10:00 and staying till the last minute. We have freezing rain on top of the snow making it loud to walk in. Hope they come back after we set up.
Good luck to all who hunt the bitter end.

Re: What time of day?
Thanks for all the info. Seems to confirm our pics of this year. In years of snow we see a lot more daytime movement but no snow so far and activity has slowed in daylight hrs. I did see a very large buck today at 1 pm 100 yds out moving with intent. Head down and scenting. No response to a doe blea...

What time of day?
What time of day do you see the most deer activity in the last 3 wks of Dec? On our cameras we see a lot of deer from 10 to noon and then another active time seems to be from 2 to just before dusk. The last 3 yrs we have taken most of our deer in daylight and only 1 at sunset. I wonder if things are...

Tink's smokin sticks?
Bought some all season smokin sticks to try next week when my crossbow season finally starts. Anybody have luck w/these and any suggestions as to how to use them would be appreciated. The area I will be hunting is bush, field, meadow and swamp I can't bait as the farmer has yet to remove his cattle ...

got an 8 pt still on the chase
Shot an 8 pt yesterday at 1045 that was acting like he was on the scent of a doe. My understanding is that the rut is over in our area but this guy had his head down following something with intent. I hunt just south of Orillia On in a large wild area w/no crops. Is the rut indeed over or are there ...

Re: luminoks not staying all that tight
I take a piece of dental floss , lay it over the opening and push the luminok in. Use more than 1 piece if necessary. Been using this method for 2 yrs and works for me

bucks dropping racks in S Ontario?
I'm heading out for the last time tomorrow afternoon. Our neighbour took a nice 10 pt last night and saw another buck which had already dropped its rack. Anyone else seeing bucks without racks in S Ontario? We're about 1 1/2 hrs N of Oshawa.

Re: Lumenok Bolt with an Equinox
I use firebolts w/150gr Boltcutters . My bow is an Exocet 175. Was using 125gr but found the added weight of the Luminoks had a serious affect on consistency and accuracy. Went to Gagnon's in Oshawa where Craig recommended the switch to 150's and found the difference amazing , 1" groups consist...

buck to doe ratio when to take does?
We hunt a non agricultural area south of Orillia. The land is rough and used to graze cattle which grow well on what the locals call sweet grass. There is mixed bush, large meadows and swamp on our 400 acres which is surrounded by at least 1000 more. Over the years we have harvested only 3 big mature...

do limbs travel past zero point after shot?
I have limited space in one of my box stands and I don't want my limbs to hit the edge of the window frame when I shoot. Any one know how far the limbs travel past the zero point of their position when strung but not loaded?

Re: Time has come for snowshoes!
I hunt near Brechin and am looking forward to snow cover as the deer tend to come to the south facing ridge where my late season stands are. Have never needed snow shoes but if I do I think the deer concentration will be higher as I always see a lot more sign and deer when hunting grouse in January

finally going for 1st hunt of 2010
I finally have the time and opportunity to go out w/my Exocet on the weekend. Weather looks good and good wind direction. Last year I got out at the same time of year and had a lot of snow . Success came quick in the form of a nice dry doe. I was 50 yds from nice buck who stopped and followed a doe ...
