Man, the wind blows nearly all the time here in east NC! A truly windless day is almost unheard of. Even a light breeze is rare. Don't make a lot of difference in the deer hunting here.
Do your deer shut down in wind?

Around here, most of us wear knee-high rubber boots from various manufacturers. I'm trying to wear out a pair of Burlys right now. They definitely do not leak, although they are hot and don't breathe ... nor are they particularly warm ... but they're the standard issue hereabouts, as much for protec...

It's a good idea to have some way to take a rested shot ... IF YOU CAN. I've got an EL CHEAPO telescoping shooting stick from Walmart. Two inflexible rules of hunting riflery (situation allowing) are: 1. GET CLOSER 2. USE A REST These would certainly apply to the shooting of a crossbow, too. However...

I do all my own butchering ... skinning, boning, cutting, grinding, wrapping and freezing ... well, actually, I do the skinning and boning. My dear wife does the rest. We cooperate on grinding. I always tend to making sausage and jerky. I've got a good game hoist that uses a big boat wench and 1/4&q...

Yeah, you can't really depend on things like that, except as broad averages. Here in this county, colored on that map at 15+ per square mile, I can tell you that you may find less than 5, or more than 50. I'd bet it's more like 100 in some areas of the county. I know I've spotlighted (legal) around ...

Man, they're none too big ... I can tell you that! I wear a 12EEEEE ... and the fit is very snug with a normal sneaker or boot. I can't get my Burly rubber boots in there at all, which is what I normally hunt in! If I could get one an inch wider, I'd be interested. Thought I'd make a device from 1/4...

SLICK TRICKS - SLICK ADVERTISING?
Hey, Ya'll ... OK, I'll admit it. The title was a slick trick to get you to look. Now, for my real question: WHEN IS BROADHEAD PERFORMANCE GOOD ENOUGH? Recently, I perused the 2006 Cabela's Archery Catalog, and was confronted by a dizzying array of broadhead options, representing the chronological d...

I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to trail a deer unless you're hunting in an absolute downpour. It takes a pretty heavy rain to obliterate a heavy blood trail. It's all about your shooting. If you can double lung a deer, it is not going to get far ... maybe 80-100 yards, but not likely...
