FOC for crossbows

I like to shoot a high FOC (weight forward of center) in a Longbow or Vertical. It has been proven by DR. Ashbey in his test to give better flight and penetration. I'm curious if it would also apply to crossbows? To me, it would not seem to be much benefit. Your thoughts?

string material

Those of you that make strings, is D97 a good choice? I have 2 spools and would like to make a few for personal use. What would you consider to be the minimum number of strands? I made one with 28 and it seems a little skinny, not much tho.

Re: Excaliburs New SS String Shock System

Does anyone know what they weigh? Those of you that have them, do they seem to make it front heavy?

Re: Inserts?

I haven't shot the G5 but I plan on trying it. IMHO with a 100 gr BH using carbon arrows you will need to add some forward weight. No experience with them, but the Gold Tip Lazer 11 comes with a 110 gr brass insert. Sounds like they would be worth trying. Maybe someone that has tried this setup will...

Re: help with Flemish string

Thanks Boo. Generally speaking how long are the strands when you start making a string? In other words, how much longer than the finished string? Is D97 a good choice for xbow strings?

help with Flemish string

I make strings for longbow with D97. Now I'm ready to try for my Excal Phoenix. Do I need to start with 3" extra lenght as in 39" for a 36" finished string? Using D97 what would be the min/max number of strands to use.

Re: Excal rail lube substitute

Thanks for the responses. Boo can I use string makers wax on the serving, without gumming things up? Or would a string conditioner be better?

Just got a Phoenix but don't have the rail lube. Is there something I can use instead?

mjm, Had my Phoenix about a week. I think that what folks are saying is if the string is between the lines on the rail ( the lines are on top where the string rest) your good to go. If your string is closer to the limbs than the forward line, you will need to twist your string to shorten it.

Thanks for all the responses folks. I think I will get the package deal since it will be a much better value as opposed to buying things piece meal.

Still not sure as to how the bolts are fletched. I've been fletching wood, aluminum, and carbon for years with a bitz. How do you folks fletch CB bolts?

Got the Excaliber fever

Brand new to the forum and Crossbows. I have quite a collection of Longbows and Recurves, but never owned a CB. My choice has been narrowed to the Phoenix, which will be ordered this week. Got a few questions for all you veterans: 1 Is the package worth the extra $, scope good quality? 2 If I order ...
