Re: Training on large distances.
I used to have a bit of fun playing with distance shooting, but I haven't done it for a while now. Its good to push the extremes just to see whats possible with an excal. After watching compound archers shoot in a 180 meter clout competition, I decided to try it with an equinox . Of course the rail/...

Re: Hunting Fatality hits home
That's very sad news. Hopefully it can also be a reminder to the rest of us not to be complacent with safety. Strum made a good point about a waist harness. Even a full harness will cut off blood supply after a longer period of time, so its important to have the ability to cut ourselves out if neces...

Re: Inserts came out...
I've had similar issues with other shafts before. But a good hone/scratch inside the shafts usually sorts the problem out.

Re: Serving on string?
Better off to use someone who does crossbow strings regularly, than an archery shop who's mostly only handling vertical bows. With a low poundage vertical bow you can get away with a center serving that's not up to scratch and not so tight. But with the higher poundage crossbows it will generally co...

Re: smallgame head thoughts ???
As far as durability and longevity go Varmit Busters (VB's)have proved to be the toughest for me over the last few years, simple design, can change tip weight, and cheap. I usually buy all my broadheads from the US, but these Aussie blunts saved me a lot of money from losing arrows in the ground, an...

Re: String twisting again
As a guide, look at the direction of the "center serving" twist rotation, The string should be twisted up in the same direction to be tightened.

Re: String Broke after firing 8 times
Have another look around for your string. They can be hard to find. The boys have given you good advice. Chances are your string will be ok (Check there's no broken strands), and has just flung off due to low brace height/incorrect arrow position. When you get your string back on, Always double chec...

Re: Strings
The standard excal strings are good, or you can get various custom strings from members on this site which will cost a little more. A good Flemish string will last you years depending on material, use, abuse. Especially if you learn to reserve the old string yourself. I've always got less life out o...

Re: Question on arrow cutting
I read somewhere that it's recommended to cut a little long to allow for squaring, I guess it depends on how square the cut is to begin with. Thanks! If you have a reasonable quality right angle cutting wheel saw there's not much material loss in squaring up. But if using a more crude method of cut...

Definitely be careful, many varieties are identical to the eye. Best to get a couple as a sample and take them to a known expert in your area.

Re: Yards vs Metres
If you're shooting a large target like a deer at close range, and assuming that's the only thing that you use you're bow for, near enough may be good enough for you. But why would you buy a quality bow that can shoot hole in hole, and then set the sights up so it can be over 6 inches off the mark ou...

Re: M380 blows [Picture]
The broken Lumenoks may indicate that the arrow may not have been seated 100% on the string and a partial dryfire caused the limb tip stress. If brace height was low then additional stress may occur on the limb tip. Also, the string slamming into the Lumenock if not seated 100% may cause damage to ...

Re: Small diameter strings?
With some of the new string materials being 3-4 times stronger than Dacron, its possible to get a very low strand string with enough strength to do the job, as long as you use a very thick center serving to help re-center the string/nock contact point. But personally I think there's very little for ...

Re: Yards vs Metres
Can you guys think of a way of applying this to the HHA Optimizer sight which has all the supplied tapes in yards. Can I set one of these to work 10 - 60 meters? Just use a blank sticker strip on the optimizer. Shoot with the target set at the different distances such as 20/30/40/50 etc. adjust the...
