Re: Keeping an Excalibur ready for action?
I hunt from ladder stands when in a tree, and they all have a shootin rail so i put my bow there with the stock in my lap..i can sit comfortable a long time like that..plus the shootin rail helps me feel more secure Same for me. Used to make my own stands, now I get the 2-seater ladder stands from ...

Re: Big Doe Down
Congrats on finding it. Blood trailing is fun when there is lots of blood and the deer didn't go too far, but it sucks when there is no blood and you can't find the deer.
Maybe the shot was a little back or maybe the shoulder was extended forward when you shot and then covered up the exit wound.

Re: Canned hunts
Ninepoint has a very good point. We are all talking about a propoganda film and there are always at least 2 sides to a story. I do consulting work on a lot of all types of game ranches - what I do has very little to do with the hunting aspect though. I also do a very limited number of guided turkey ...

It's super cool that you and your Dad do stuff. Before you know it he won't be able to go anymore. Good looking doe.

Re: Croosbow Practice and Sighting in ?
That's pretty rough if you can't even sight in your rifle while resting it on the truck. In my state, your not supposed to shoot at animals from a public road or from a vehicle but there's nothing wrong with sighting it in using that method. I guess laws vary where ever you go.

Re: Croosbow Practice and Sighting in ?
Very good question. I sighted in my xbow the same way I do a rifle - a 50 lb bag of feed on the hood of the truck. Have tried numerous methods and like that the best. Also, my stands all have a bar to rest a rifle or xbow on.

Re: Crossbow vs Rifle
Great discussion about a good topic. What I like about this forum. Almost hate to say it, but all other factors being equal, I would rather hunt with my 270 BAR with Hornady 140 g SSTs than with any primitive weapon. I rarely take shots over 150 yards because I can't stand wounding deer and not reco...

Officially Addicted
Joined the forum 2 weeks ago. As per much advice on the forum, and a lot of research, ordered an Axiom with extra Excalibur bolts and fixed broadheads. The assembly was easier that turning on my DVD player. Practiced all week with target tips, then broadheads, then from the stand. Very little sight ...

Re: First kill with my Vortex
Sounds like a good shot! Sorry about the ground shrinkage, but who cares. I killed a small one once and it smelled bad like it was sick.

Re: fawns NOT to shoot
Killed a doe fawn by accident once years ago. Almost felt bad. Button bucks - ha-uh. I clean and de-bone my own deer. Keep the meat in a cooler on ice and save up a batch to take a friend of mine who makes hamburger, sausage, and cube steak. Used to go to place that I think did all the deer at one t...

Re: installed my new sight
I was checking the rules and regs for my state today while I was getting the season dates and saw where it said no built in range finders for bows. Do you know if it is legal? It may just be during bow season in my state.

Re: Florida Bear
There was a very restricted bear season where I grew up in North Central Florida, but they closed it in 1992 (If recolection serves). I never got into it, but I had lots of friends who did. They still have plot hounds and hunt bears in other states. I was at Univ of Florida in 1992 in the School of ...
