Re: My Son's success
I wish him all the best in Afghanistan. A nice way to spend a couple of days before shipping off. New a guy when I lived in Macon, GA years ago that deer hunted with a verticle bow and field points, no broadheads, but he only tried head shots. That way he didn't have to blood trail them. Missed a lo...

Re: There is no honor among thieves
I thought the original post was about trying to enjoy the outdoors and the experience of hunting while these jerks go around stealing people's stands, blinds, feeders, and so forth.

Re: best and worst day 10-1-11
Good looking deer. Sure you'd rather have had the big one to show off all the way home, but still got a good one. This one will probably eat better anyway. had a monster buck coming straight into me, he got to 15yds where I left the 1st piece of TP the day before that I didnt pickup put his nose on ...

Recieved a PM from someone who is in the know. As it turns out, the poor guy is paraplegic. Don't know why the paper left that out.

Re: There is no honor among thieves
For me, hunting and fishing, amoung other outdoor endeavers, are times to get out and away from the everyday bull sht. A time to maybe clear my head and get back to a happy place mentally for a while. And yes, at times it does seem to be a spiritual thing. Other people do things like yoga and so for...

To trophy or not to trophy
A new topic for conversation. I have friends and aquantances that view hunting primary as a trophy sport. Many think it is borderline unethical to shoot a deer that is less than at least 3.5 years old and should really be 4.5 or 5.5. Some really take it to the extreme. Must admit I have been there d...

He probably thought a happy meal was way better than a backstrap if he's like my son.

They used to do street justice around here too. I've had a lot of friends in law enforcement and have heard plenty of stories. In 2001, a couple of guys were prosecuted for roughing up a convict in my county. Don't want to read about Darrel going to jail.

Re: Unusual Deer
There are some deer that have a lot of white on them at one place I hunt. Maybe like 1 or 2 percent. Have heard them called piebald. Most of the time they are pretty scrawny looking. Never seen a black deer though.

Re: opening day buck... my first deer ever
Congrats on getting your first deer. Looks like a good one. About the only thing special about my first deer was that my dad was there to share it with me. 33 years later, remember it like it was 5 minutes ago though.

Good looking deer. Glad I'm not the only one that second guesses my shot after the deer makes off. Your deer sure are bigger-bodied that what I'm used to in Florida.

Re: shooting off hand
Had a friend from high school I haven't seen in years that lost his right eye and had to learn to shoot left handed. He seemed to do fine with it. I never heard him complain. Was a very good V-bow hunter too.
