Re: Made a bad shot...
Sorry about all the trash in the truck. Some jerk dumped all kinds of crap in a pile on the side of the road in National Forest. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee480/JohnDoeHunter/_facebook_-928071494_.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee480/JohnDoeHunter/_facebook_1832606965_.jpg

Re: Frontal Shot?
I wouldn't take a facing shot if the deer is looking right at me. I have shot a couple in the head with a bow with their head down and calm.

Re: Made a bad shot...
We found him. Arrow is still MIA. Followed a very sparce blood trail, drop here, drop there for about 20 to 30 yards. It must have taken that far to fill his chest, because after that it was an easy recovery. Got lucky and got the back of the lung on the exit side. He ended up being a 10 and not a 9...

Re: Made a bad shot...
Sorry I was not more clear, my mind is going a million miles a minute. It was a quartering away shot. I did not search for my arrow, but I did not see the firenock glowing in the woods either. It was about a 30 yard shot and how the terrain is in the area and the height I was up the arrow very well ...

Made a bad shot...
I arrowed a nice 9 point this morning with the Excalibur. He either jumped the string or some how saw the limbs move out of the corner of his eye. Looks like I hit him on a hard quarter and entered in the guts. Could not find the arrow and the blood trail is poor. It had water in it and was not brig...

Re: Successful Season or Not, Mine!
My Mrs. kept me from hunting several mornings this year. But I ain't complaining at all. Coming up on 20 years ago I came home on leave and went to visit my best friend and brother Marine. Well she was 15 when her brother and I left for boot and was homely, and forgettable. What a difference those t...

Re: tender squirrel.........
Most of the time I pressure cook the old ones for 15 minutes and then fry them. Goin to have the young one for breakfast in the morning with some gravy made from the drippings and some biscuits.

Re: tender squirrel.........
This thread got me to thinking. Well I went out behind the house and shot 4 squirrels. Cleaned em up 3 of them were old so I put one squirrel each into a pint jar and covered them with turkey gravy and half a teaspoon of salt. Had a doe given to me and I'm going to start canning tonight. Don't know ...

Sturdy is an understatement, that hoss is built like a tank! He would be a bear of a lifetime and I have seen more than a few.

Re: String Removal
I take the pads off and remove my string. I keep the string and pads in a zip lock tied to the trigger guard of my bow. That saves me a lot of searching for them later, because I can never remember the safe place I put stuff.
