Re: Testing : Tooth of the Arrow Broadheads

For the Canuck's in the group, if you order these directly from Tooth of the Arrow they toss them in the mail for $7.99 shipping.

And these fly more like a fieldpoint then most of my fieldpoints :D

Re: 300 gr. Broadhead

Anyone that is considering any new head should check out some of the video's this "Lusk" posts up on Youtube - he has tested probably close to 100 heads, uses the same method for each. Not that I want to shoot sheet metal or cinder blocks but nice to know if you have chucked some serious d...

Re: Newbie hoping for some guidance

You still have more then enough for moose with that rig. The specs on my 340 shooting a 504 grain total weight with 21.6% FOC (if you buy into that) arrow gives me: 101 lbs of KE and 0.669 slug at the (barrel) Still making 92 lbs of KE and 0.640 slug at 40 yards. If you believe conventional wisdom 4...

Re: Newbie hoping for some guidance

I started shooting crossbows a little over 30 years ago. My first was a Horton Recurve that had "spring steel limbs" wrapped in nylon. It was rated at 240 fps - blistering fast at that time but shot closer to 210 set up for hunting - a number of deer fell to that crossbow. About 20'ish yea...

Re: 6 Pack going to Texas

I even go a step further than Norm and build all my "front heavy, going to shoot fixed broadhead" arrows with 4" Norway Duravanes. I don't build with the carbon inserts instead all my added weight is up front. Current arrows are Gold Tip Ballistic shafts (8.5 gpi) cut to 17" for ...

Re: Where were you when the world stopped turning

I was in the Airforce (Canadian) standing in the situation room. I worked in Intelligence. The first plane hit and most of the news feeds were surmising that it was some kind of small commuter plane. I remember the Operations Officer saying to us "we are at war now". Didn't make it home fo...

Re: Does Broadhead Choice Really Matter?

I have hunted with many broadheads over the years first in my traditional recurve and now for the past (almost) 20 years with one of the crossbows I have owned. I am also a vendor (hunting/fishing junk) and get a pile of "samples" from the trade/booking shows trying to get me to carry/plug...

Re: 2019-20 Regs

A little late to this post but a number of licence issuers (including where I work) decided to opt out of the new program for a few reasons. First, under the old system they provided the computer, the printer that printed the tags, the tags themselves etc and we got the $2 "service fee" fo...

Re: Changing bolts

I would still use the 110 grain inserts. Chopping off 2" would only reduce the arrow by about 18 grains (9.1 gpi). That is "less effect" than going from a 100 grain to 125 grain head, all else being equal and it would effect the FOC by less than 1% (0.6 by my calculator) with increase...

Re: 150 grain Boltcutters on Zombie Slayers for bear?

If you have never shot a bear with a bow just be aware that it's almost impossible to shoot through their leg bone.

When a bear is broadside to you the most lethal shot is right through the vitals when they step their front leg (on your side) forward.

That leaves the vitals totally exposed.

Re: Need help identifying an animal from Trail cam footage

IMO just bugs coming out & headed up. x2 I like the bug theory, but the two glowing objects move in perfect unison -- whatever they are, they're both attached to the same thing/part of the same thing. I looked at that a few times, because yes, the two (dots) are moving exactly in unison. I woul...

After you have killed a few deer with the vixen 2 .you realize that its really all you really need.l killed my big 8 point swamp buck with the vixen 2 l love that little bow. Totally agree. And that is why I haven't upgraded despite being "tempted" by all the new offerings over the last d...

Re: Axiom Velocity

My Vix II is rated at a max of 285 fps. I use a custom flemish string with string whiskers, have S5's and Dissipator bars installed and shoot a 394 grain arrow/head combination total weight. My chrono'd speed at 5 feet from the (muzzle) is 272 fps. Given your model is rated at 20 feet faster I would...

Re: 50th hunt ideas

I lived in Nfld for a total of 9 years (two tours in the Airforce) and there is a crap pile of moose there. Plus, outside of a few little inhabited pockets most of the island is crown land. Some describe the land as a giant bog with a few rocks thrown in. I would add a few rises to that definition. ...

Re: HELP! Dry fired my vortex!

I have a Vixen II. It has dry fired or partially dry fired at least half a dozen times (darn plastic flat nocks had a way of allowing the string to slip off/over/under). One time I had a stringing aid break (before they added the metal to them) and the limbs went "high speed" into a concre...
