Re: Point restrictions
In almost total agreement with that last poster but I have a perfect example of the opposite side of the coin. In the fall of 1997 we drove down to Prescott Arkansas to look at lab puppies, down in what's known as Arkansas' "deer factory". Back then it should have been more apply called &...

Re: Point restrictions
The place in PA is called the Double Diamond Deer Ranch. I looked for some pictures. There was 1 but it was too small to really see what I was talking about.

Re: Point restrictions
I grew up in PA where they had a long archery season of either sex, and the a rifle season of 2 weeks of buck only - no restrictions and then 2 days of doe season. Over the years that totally destroyed the herd balance as over 90% of all bucks were being killed. I can count on 1 hand probably the nu...

Re: skin/gut a deer in 108 seconds
I shot one, field dressed it, brought it home, hung it up and skinned it and cut off the meat (backstraps, tenderloins, each front leg whole, and cut 3 roasts out of each hind qtr, then picked the rest of the carcasss for burger) and got that in the refrigerator in about 3 hours. I thought that was ...

Re: Swacker Broadheads
Mike I shot the same ones last year and hit a small deer a little bit high. Got the top of the lungs but clipped the spine. No pass through. I'll check the total weight of the arrow and let you know what I think the KE was. It was a 20 yd shot with my Vortex and Flemish string and I should have 20yd...

Re: Hawks Are Cool
Interesting thread. My contribution goes back several years. Once when fox squirrell hunting w/ a ml, I shot one on a dead branch that 'hung up'. As I was thinking how to retrieve it, a red tailed hawk landed and proceeded to have lunch. Thanks for reminding me of it! He must have read th...

Re: Swacker Broadheads
Looks like they are trying to address the lack of penetration issue by recommending a "light" 100 gr head with a smaller cut. Keeping in line with the light fast arrow group. IMO if I would make a "crossbow" Swhacker, it would be heavier like 150 or 175gr and I would recommend a ...

Re: First deer ever
Way to go! Great job, great shot and great perseverance. Grill some backstraps and let your mum try them - might change her mind!

Re: Broadhead Accuracy
The broad heads are all over the board, except for the Carbon Express, have to try the Boltcutters I picked up today, I am shooting the 20 inch firebolts...As I said the fieldpoints are 2 inch groups at fifty yards, so I didn't think of the bolts as being the issue? Fixed blade broad heads catch th...

Re: slick tricks
All 3 deer I shot this year were from the ground, so the holes were pretty "level" with respect to the body. The first 2 were quartering to shots and really good blood trails. The third was more broadside (actually about 1" quartering away when comparing the holes) and the blood trail...

Re: Broadhead Accuracy
I am shooting Slick Trick 150gr Xbow Trick BHs this year and they shoot within 1" of my field points. Question: are you seeing your BHs hit only lower than your FP or are they off in other directions too? If lower, I expect that due to drag. If other, then you probably need to look at the arrow...

Re: Actual Shot Distance
This is my second year recording broadhead data on another forum. You might find this interesting: http://www.cthuntingnshooting.com/vBforum/showthread.php?15967-2013-2014-Season-Broadhead-Performance-Thread Bob That's some good data right there. My first impression based on a quick look - it doesn...
