Kayakyok,
I think you are underestimating the abilities of that xbow. Throw a couple sandbags on a table and you will see what its really capable of.

Re: what to look at when buying a used crossbow
About 20-25 shots is all the string will take....it was not a factory blemish . Used bow ,couple years old. How many $ ya recon a new rail would run me? Its a vortex.

Re: what to look at when buying a used crossbow
Will excal replace a rail if it has a scratch on it that is so noticeable you can feel it with your finger as u rub up and down the rail? If not...any idea how much a rail would cost?

Twisting a new string
Put a new string on a Vortex,it sets HARD against the stoppers. How many twists can you safely put in it to "shorten" it up from touching the stoppers?

Re: Got a used Vortex, how do I check it over?
If this is your 1st crossbow.....please, please, please, DO NOT put your hand or fingers anywhere near the string rail when shooting. It takes a conscious effort for newbies sometimes....

Re: Vortex cheekpiece
There is no way this thing will "snap" into place without either breaking, grinding,or cutting them off with a sawzall. I wonder if I have the wrong cheek piece for my model Vortex....its a 2011.....and it has a pre drilled hole on top of stock. IM frUsTrAtEd.....

Vortex cheekpiece
Is there a reason my new cheek piece wont fit my thumb hole Vortex? The cheek piece has 5 ribs extruding from it that wont let it come close enuff to the stock to line the predrilled screw up. Help thanks
