It would be great if Dan's witticisms could be compiled into one thread and when filled the thread could be closed and "stickied" as a tribute to him and all he did for us here.

Re: Zeroing twilight dxl tips
Make sure the scope is plumb before you sight it in. If it's not plum the POI will be off to the left or right when you shoot at longer distances.

Re: Awshucks is No More
Dan touched many lives in the crossbow works and he will be sorely missed. He helped me when I first got started and I always looked forward to his posts. When someone like Dan passes it is the same as a library closing.
A very sad day for sure. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Re: Glue for Inserts
Loctite two part epoxy for me.
I lost a few Broadhead and inserts in targets when I was using superglue for my inserts.

Re: deer call(s), help me decide
Your calls are a work of art and the Excalibur community would be poorer with them.
I have a spinal neuro-stimulator that helps manage the pain from my failed back (L4-L5-S1 fusion). It helps but there is no real solution. Hang in there and do what you can when you can.

Re: OT-deer liver
With all the Cadmium warnings about Deer and Moose livers that have been in the Ontario Hunters guides (since about the 80's), I have never saved them at all. And I really like liver, just don't need the toxic metal as a dish  It is the same here in New England. I think that you are ok if you ...

Re: Micro or Matrix?
The only thing I would add is to check to make sure what, if any, limitations the state has on crossbows. Some states set minimum/maximum poundages and arrow length minimums.
One of the states I hunt has a minimum arrow length of 18" which would rule out the micro as it shoots a 16" quill.

Re: Ignitors or Lumenocs
I have used theFire oaks and the Lumenoks but I don't have any experience with the Ignitors. I am currently using the Lumenoks on my arrows and the Ignitors will solve my chief gripe with the Lumenoks. Every time I shoot an arrow with the Lumenok on it the wires put a small dimple in the back of the...

Re: Turkeys - Passthroughs good or bad?
I am not a big turkey hunter and have only shot one with my Exocet was while I was deer hunting. So FWIW: The Broadhead I used was a 125g NAP Spitfire. I waited on the shot until the tom was going away from me and I aimed for the spine. The arrow didn't pass thru but took out the spine. The turkey w...

Re: What gear, spare parts, or equipment do you take on a hu
I always carry a spare string, stringing aid, allen wrenches, wax, and a spare battery for the scope in the truck for local hunts. If I was going 1500 miles I would take everything I could; including a backup Xbow if I had one.

Re: What glue to use for aluminum nocks?
[ is the nock still removable with epoxy on it? Or is it farely difficult? I have never tried. No need. My goal is to make sure that they never come out. quote="ehntr"] You would need a torch to take it out. Epoxy is the king of adhesives.[/quote] I have removed factory / super glued in mo...

Re: What glue to use for aluminum nocks?
I use Loctite two part epoxy. More important is the prep. I put the insert in between two rasp files and run them back and forth a few times to rough up the surface of the insert (thanks Boo). It gives the insert more grip on the adhesive. I also clean the inside of the arrow with an old .30 caliber...

Re: Knockoff FOC's
While NAP holds the patents I don't think the Chinese Government is going to enforce them against their own workforce. Now, while I don't support buying a product that is essentially stolen from the company that did all the development etc I do have a little less sympathy than I would if things wer...
