Re: Maintenance tips for crossbows

I was a police armorer for years and there was one rule that every armorer's class mentioned. NEVER use WD-40 on your firearms. WD stands for Water Displacing and it leaves a lacquer-type residue behind that can only be cleaned off by.....more WD-40 :-) This rule was shared by Armalite, Bushmaster, ...

Re: Adjusting for downhill shot

The distance would be if you were both on level ground. The additional distance with the height is measured with less-expensive rangefinders that don't account for angle. If I'm using my bow from a sharp angle and I have to eyeball it, I guess the distance and then subtract 10% to get the actual dis...

Re: BH preferences

I've used Thunderhead 125 broadheads since about 1988 and I've never hit anything with one hard enough to damage the broadhead. In my younger days, I used to shoot a 93-pound draw on my compound so there was plenty of energy there to do some damage. Nowadays, I only draw about 80 pounds with my comp...

Re: shooting like a recurve

Pretty cool. I still shoot my recurve barebow for fun but I also use sights on my bows for hunting. I just don't trust myself enough even though I'm pretty good. I applaud your efforts though.

Re: TO SHOOT OR NOT

If your aim is on and your broadheads are sharp, it shouldn't be a problem. I've done it plenty of times with a vertical bow and have always had good success.

Re: crossbow tech tips

This thread had a lot of potential before it went downhill. Is there any way to start this thread over again without all the B.S.? I was really looking forward to learning some crossbow tech tips but I can do without all the "drama".

Re: 13 Acres

If you decide to make some trails, you might want to consider one of the DR Field & Brush mowers. We have one and it's just perfect for making deer trails and clearing small areas, depending on how much walking you're willing to do.

Re: Does every Excalibur shoot everything well?

Strum, my string rides right on the riser so it's pretty centered on all of the arrows that I've used so far. I will keep that in mind though. Limbs and Sticks, how do you get a 2213 down to 350 grains? Mine are 415 grains with a 125-grain broadhead. A 100-grain broadhead would get me down to 390. C...

Does every Excalibur shoot everything well?

I just bought a new Excalibur Exomax a few weeks ago. It came with three of the 20" carbon Excalibur Firebolt arrows. Since I still have a lot of arrows left from years ago when I shot archery with short arrows on bows with overdraws, I also cut down some 2213 aluminum arrows to 20" and al...

Re: Excalibur Crossbow Case needed...

A buddy of mine uses an old Carhartt jacket. He unzips the jacket, lays the bow in it with the limbs in the sleeves of the jacket, and then zips it up in the front. The crossbow is protected pretty well and it only cost him an old jacket that he already had.

Re: How many arrows to have enough or too many?

I picked up my new Exomag on Friday. I then went home and started making up some 2213 crossbow arrows from some of my old vertical-bow arrows. I have literally hundreds of 2213s, an arrow saw, plenty of vanes and a fletching jig, etc. so far, I've made up about two dozen arrows for my crossbow. I'm...

I haven't shot them but my archery shop has several of them that were shot into concrete blocks and still held together. They talk very highly about their durability and accuracy.

Re: Has anyone tried the Plano Manta crossbow case?

That's a great price. Is that a US or Canadian Walmart? That price was on the American Wal-mart web site. You would have to check the Canadian Wal-Mart web site to see what your prices would be. Like I said, it includes free shipping to a local Wal-Mart, at least it did on the American web site. I'...

Re: Has anyone tried the Plano Manta crossbow case?

Thanks for the info guys. I like the idea is using a regular rifle case but I'd hate to have to take the riser off every time I leave the woods. I think I kind of like that idea for off-season storage though.
