Re: Hung my first stand - most amazing tree cam pics i've t
Sat two days in the stand. farmer was cutting the corn, and while I hear that could have been a good time to hunt, it didn't seem to help. All pics of the bucks are super early in the morning. the stand has lots of activity at 4:30-5:30 am.... I'm not sure where deer are going afterward....Hopefully...

First sit in the stand...or not
Ok, I'm eagerly prepping to go out for the first time this weekend. I'll be hunting all day Friday and Saturday. I only have 2-3 weekends before the baby comes, so my hunting will be limited this year. not sure if i'll get to go out after the little one arrives. Here's the big question, it looks lik...

Hung my first stand - most amazing tree cam pics i've taken
Just got back from picking up my preseason tree cam pics and hanging my first deer stand. see a small highlight slide show here: http://s874.photobucket.com/user/brianfrels/slideshow/2014%20-%20Hunting%20PreSeason This is the same spot I shot my 2nd crossbow deer last year on the last day of the sea...

New year, new string etc
Gearing up for the next season. It will be short for me as I have a new baby girl arriving mid oct. Just picked up a new Flemish excalibur string. I bought my bow used last year, so this will be the first time to break in a string, any tips? Other new gear: I got a summit ecs stoop tree stand, took ...

Re: Last Hunt of the Year
Called my usual butcher after the kill and found out they stopped taking in deer two weeks ago due to room in the freezer. So, I had to hang the deer overnight and took it to a new place the next morning. In addition to the backstraps, which I'll chicken fry with mash tators and cream gravy, I got b...

Last Hunt of the Year
Well, I took off 1.5 days to hunt the last two days of the season at the farm. We had some snow a few days before, so I knew it was going to be a good day to look for tracks and beds. Checked my trail cam..and realized I had left it in setup mode the past 2 weeks so no photos. scouted a new area nea...

Last day of rifle season, I'm taking the bow
Heading down to Southern Md for the last day of rifle season, but I'm taking my equinox. It's my first year bow hunting, and although I've hunted 20+ years with a rifle previously I feel closer to the sport then ever. I havn't been able to take my TC .50cal muzzleloader out all season because I'm sc...

Re: Firebolts with lumenoks
Hope not, I just got some for Christmas and am hoping they don't significantly change anything. I've been using similar firebolts without the lumenoks. I'll have to run some target shots this weekend when I get to the farm.

Re: Marking yards without range finder
Update..Santa got me a Nikon Riflehunter 1000. I've been out with it twice. Works great. Reviews are correct about it being hard to read in some light conditions, but have not experienced those in the field. Ranged a 6 point at 65 yards yesterday.

Re: First crossbow deer
Well, I just figured out how to post pics, so I thought I'd post one. Hit the neck higher than I wanted, I think she may have ducked a bit. Normally I wouldn't have taken such a shot, but she was practically standing on top of me. Hoping to go back out next weekend. the summer sausage is great! http...

Re: show us your hunting kinfe
Hope this works, Is my first attempt to post a pic. This is a custom knife given to me by my father as a gift when I obtained Eagle Scout. One of my prized possessions. I decided it wouldn't do any good sitting on a shelf, so I carry hunting with me and have used it many times. http://i874.photobuck...

First crossbow deer
Hello all, it's been awhile. I've been working hard at learning the ins and outs of bow hunting my first season. I've been hunting out of a field and stream ground blind but recently ditched it so I could be more mobile. I still don't have a range finder, dear Santa, so I've been pacing yardage and ...

Re: go hunting
Tried a state park this sat. It's a bit closer to home and should make a good alternate hunting spot. Saw 8 does from my ground blind. At 45 yards one was just out of my comfort zone for my first crossbow deer. Next time i go I'll move my stand over 20 yards and give it a shot again.
