Ice time

Worked like a maniac all last weekend to take a few days off this week to get out on Nipissing for the first time this season with my oldest son. I also had some new gear to try out. I picked up an Eskimo 450i five man insulated hub shelter last year at an end of season sale plus for Christmas this ...

Re: Best Stock Excal Ever?

They were the last wood stock we ever made so they are special. Peter Have used this one exclusively this season: https://live.staticflickr.com/4741/39983686242_2bcd67ee2f_b.jpg The optics in the pic are a Vortex XBR which have since been upgraded to a Luepold Mark 4. This fall it's taken one bear ...

Griswold Strikes Again

Cut down this year's tree this morning. 12' 6" tall, 7' foot 4" wide. Still have to get it in the house - has to come through the front door which is 34 inches wide. Might need the winch this year - won't be the first time.

Re: I'm shooting 461's

Either 18 or 20 inch Zombie Slayers in the 0.001 series. Blazer Vanes and luminocks. 110 grain inserts. 125 Grain G5s. Somewhere around 430 to 450 grains depending on whether it's the 18s or 20s. Knock on wood but everything ever shot at with those combos has died fast (300 lb bear and a spike this ...

Re: What weight Broadhead for better penetration?

I am with Norm and AJ. Back when i used the 405 regularly i was using a fixed blade and bolt combo that tipped the scales at 505 grains. I had an 8 pt buck once broadside at 25 yards. On release the bolt lost one fletching and missed my aim point by 5 or 6 inches and hit square on the shoulder blade...

Best Stock Excal Ever?

So hunting season has slowed a little and as all my tags are filled so like the title says - what do think the best stock Excal ever made was? Factors to consider (at least in my mind) - Accuracy - Ease of Use (cocking effort, stock design, and width come to mind) - Reliability - Value I more or les...

Kayla filling the freezer

This year i have been using the Kayla custom 380 almost exclusively. In the past i only took it out once or twice a year but for whatever reason it seems to be more appealing this year and i find myself liking it more and more. At 1030 Thursday morning i decided to hell with work (since i own the bu...

First crossbow bear - total happenstance

Spent the last few days at our place in Nipissing with my son deer hunting. Our bear baits have long gone cold but my son still had a tag as he was unable to make it up during our scheduled bear hunt. Anyways we were set up about 1/4 mile apart hunting some corn and oats i had put out last week. I w...
