Remembering Kayla

Some may remember a few years back as a community we helped young Kayla raise money for Cancer research. One of the ways we did that was an auction for a custom 380 donated by Xcal. I was the lucky one that ended up with that bow and though I don't typically hunt with it i did make a point to take i...

Re: WHY IS IT.......?

Still 8 days left. Lots of sign at camp today - was out today scouting and filling a few feeders to get ready for my kids who be will filling tags over the holidays. I will likely spend the time chasing ruffies with the 20 gauge as i filled my 2 tags and one of the BILs. Plus it was a beauty day out...

Re: Trying something new this spring

I started turkey hunting in the fall of 2018. Didn't use a 410 but did go somewhat unconventional. Used my 20 gauge upland gun (o/u beretta) with 7/8 oz number 6. Using that setup i aimed for 25 yards or less and had factory full on top and modified on the bottom for in close work. In our fall hunt ...

Re: Seeking opinions

No experience with the Hornady ELD-X. Never shot long range Accubond but have shot normal Accubonds tons and they are my go to. Furthest I have ever had a deer or bear go is 30 yards when i put one in the vitals. Interestingly it's only the smaller animals that go the full 30 yards. My theory is the...

Re: How old is old

53. Still lots of life left. Mostly hunt solo and love it. My wife made me get a SpotX this year for when i go on solo off-grid trips for 5 to 10 days by canoe. My plan is to hunt hard until i'm 80 and than to go out in epic hand to hand combat with a bear where we both end up dead. Think Revenant e...

That's a wrap - sort of.

My deer season more or less came to its end on Friday night. Tags are filled and until my kids come home in mid-December and i can party hunt with them i am finished. I had a pretty good year that started October 4th with this 2.5 year old small rack 8 point taken with the Micro. He was a challenge ...

Re: Med body, small rack 8, bizarre twist - literally

Congrats on the good recovery. Where I hunt 800 yards is a long way and might as well be miles. How do you end up with a dog that retrieves like this? Is it a natural thing or training? I took a shot at one 2 years ago and it didn't bolt like it had been hit but I found no blood but with out a trac...

The Axe and 360 TD are micro based. The 420 TD is i believe based on the Matrix.

Almost looked like a
Liver hit.
That was my thought too when i first found it. Field dressing it though the liver was intact. That was one of the dog's treats - he got the liver and the heart. I am quite certain he enjoyed the recovery more than i did.

Re: Med body, small rack 8, bizarre twist - literally

Great job on the recovery it was worth the effort I would fry up that heart for the dog for his keen work. Not sure what cause the arrow to kick directions perhaps one blade cought a rib at a funny angle causing a direction change or perhaps the deer started to turn at the shot we most likely will ...

Re: Med body, small rack 8, bizarre twist - literally

Congratulations, Glad you had the dog. Great recovery too. Thanks for sharing. I have no experience yet shooting game with a crossbow or bow. I’m just trying to observe and accumulate as much information as possible. Curious what bow you used? What Broadhead you used? Seems like the shooting elevat...

Med body, small rack 8, bizarre twist - literally

Took the afternoon off and headed to camp for an afternoon sit. My chosen spot was an elevated blind overlooking a meadow with half a dozen apple trees that still have good numbers of apples. There is also a mineral lick i built 10 years ago in the meadow. I have added salt and trace mineral religio...
