New (to me) Apex

Hey everyone, So I just picked up a lightly used Apex, the 90# version. I'm pretty stoked about the purchase. Also comes with a set of camo 130# limbs but I'm not sure that I would swap them out. Maybe they were limbs for a Vixen, I don't know. If a new trigger is in order, what's the word on the AC...

So what would you recommend in an older bow?

I know there are some differences in rail material. I'm not sure that matters but it might and I would like opinions. I believe that the bows with the lighter draw weight should provide more longevity in limb, string and serving life but I may be wrong here too. I had a little brown Vixen once that ...

String and limb Compatibility

Hi, I’m looking at picking up a couple of older wide bows. Vixen, Ibex, Vortex, Exomax or others as they come available. Right now I’ve got an Ibex in the crosshairs. Are there string lengths that are the same, just different draw lengths? Also, could a set of Vortex limbs be put on a Vixen or an Ex...

Re: Who shoots 3D shoots with a crossbow?

Bow Hunters of Alabama allow them. 330 fps and a scope of no more than 6x.

I'm pretty sure the ASA allows them too as this is where the BHA gets most of it's rules guidance (I think).

I haven't shot yet but I plan to this year, at least twice.

Re: Chronographed the Vixen today

The Easton arrows (fire bolt,Diablo, quill) are actually pretty heavy grain per inch wise. They weight 10.5grs per inch you can get down to 375-385 with a lot of different arrows (zombies, executioners,gt ballistics) while still useing a 150gr point as long as you use a aluminum insert. How long are ...

Where can I find such and still use the 150 grain field tips?

I thought I had stock arrows with the bow but nothing I have is that light. Wait, I may have one more fire bolt to try.

Chronographed the Vixen today

Used 4 different types of bolts and two different weight field points, 100 grain and 150. I don't think the string is stock but I'm not 100% sure. First up were the aluminum 2219. 504 grain - 251fps 455 grain - 259 fps Maxima Carbon Express 431 grain - 263 fps 382 grain - 272 fps Excel Firebolt 421 ...

Besides the Apex, which bow would you consider to be...

... a target bow from the Excalibur line over the years. Just pure accuracy. I've heard that the old Exocets were very good. I'd like to know why you think a particular model was better. Was it the limbs, riser design, power stroke or a combination of all these? If it was an older model, why was it ...

Are Matrix 330's GTG? (Micro's ?) and older bow question.

Once Excalibur went to the new lineup and then had issues I'm a bit nervous, especially in buying a used bow. If I understand correctly, the Matrix bows began the trend toward smaller width and now the Micro bows are the latest iteration? Which ones had the issues? How would I know if I'm getting on...

Re: Mock Scrapes

It may sound strange but we urinate in the scrapes. After watching a program where a man poured buck scent in one spot ammonia in another and human urine in a third a buck came and buried his nose in the human scent. I harvested a nice ten point buck using this method Yes. I have a friend that cond...

Why the shorter bolts?

One thing I've been noticing is that every new model I've look at takes an 18" or shorter bolt Is this for speed? Or is it because the physical dimensions of the bows have gotten smaller? Are you not sacrificing projectile weight and therefore less KE for these smaller bolts? I've got a Vixen a...
