Re: albino buck........

If legal in ones location I think it's actually good to take the Albino animal. It will have a more difficult time avoiding predators and typically other genetic issues accompany albinism that are best removed the the genetic pool. Where I would hesitate is if in the area there are people who tradit...

Re: Case questions for Matrix 380

I'm looking for a 'case' for my 380 too. However what I really want is more of a 'sock' for it. Something that I can roll up small and throw in my backpack but that will still keep me legal in Ontario for when the bow needs to be 'encased'. Anyone have suggestions? (I've been thinking of just repurp...

Re: Aging Deer Meat/ advice and tips

As I understand it, hanging to age tenderizes the meat in two ways. 1) hanging stretches the muscle fibers causing the meat to be more tender 2) enzyme action tenderizes the meat but stops if too cold (freezing) and is called rotting if too warm (>4 C). I seldom find myself in just the right temp to...

Re: A bit more than week to Go !

Best of luck on your hunt - mind me asking which WMU you're heading to?

I'll be heading to WMU 21A last week of Sept/first week of Oct. Will be my first bow hunt.

Re: Price and availability on matrix 330

Can't imagine Excalibur would release a crossbow, for the Ontario market, that wasn't legal for hunting. Reg's seem pretty clear to me. I'll be hunting with my 330 come Oct. 1. Hey Johnnyo, I was posting in another thread on this topic too. young guy at the shop I bought the bow from was abl...

Re: Power stroke/Draw lenght

Went back to the shop to buy an aid for changing the string on my M380. Talked to the young fellow there who's dad is a CO and he tried calling him again. Got through this time. I only got to hear one side of the discussion, which went on for about 10 minutes, and at first it sounded like his dad wa...

Re: 125 gr broadhead suggestions

I just bought my first crossbow today (380) and noticed on the instructional video that comes with it that Bill was saying 100gr tips always displayed poor accuracy when shooting at the velocities achieved with these bows. He did recommend the heavier heads. He further indicated that the expandable ...

Re: Price and availability on matrix 330

Below is as crossbow draw lenght is stated in the regulations I think the two you talked to at the MNR may need to find a new line of work. 2014 published REGs State: "The draw length of a crossbow is measured along the bolt ramp (where the bolt rests) from the outer edge of the main limb , to...

Re: Power stroke/Draw lenght

Hi Tom, I agree with you. Which is exactly why I did contact them again (first time via their website, second time by phone). Both times I got the same reply. Now, it's possible that *both* the representatives are mistaken, but I'm personally not going to take that chance. 'sides. Helps me justify t...

Re: Power stroke/Draw lenght

You better git-on-it, pstj! Only 8 days left to get proficient with that E/M 380 before season opener... Make sure & post some pics of the new rig, when you get her. I am so very excited to 'git-on-it'. I've got a few more than 8 days since I won't be hunting opening week. Have been firi...

Re: Power stroke/Draw lenght

This is a copy and paste from the Ontario Hunting Regulations published in August 2014. The draw length of a crossbow is measured along the bolt ramp (where the bolt rests) from the outer edge of the main limb, to the anchor point (release latch mechanism) at full draw. Here is a link to the regs. ...

Re: Power stroke/Draw lenght

So your new bow is not a legal crossbow for for hunting, as determined by one mans opinion in the MNR and therefore you will not hunt with that bow? That is your course of action? I am not from ON, therefore I have no skin in the game. I am sure that Excalibur and/or others from ON will ensure that...

Re: Price and availability on matrix 330

For what it's worth, I had felt the definition of draw length in the 2014 Ontario Hunting Regs to be ambiguous so contacted the MNR via their web page and was informed that in the field they measure the draw length on a crossbow from the string at rest to the string fully cocked (i.e., same as powe...
