Re: How hot is too hot for you to hunt

I agree with most on here, if the temps get above 70 I lose all interest. Nothing is worst then getting to your stand totally soaked and then having to deal with mosquitoes and deer flies. In the event of getting lucky on a good animal, you then have the race against the flies and heat to get it home.

Re: knife sharpener

Same thing here, old school still works fine. I use a lansky system to bring an old blade back to its original bevel but, that's about as fancy as I want to get. I have seen some nice knives beat up by those midget belt sanders, they have a bad habit of rolling or convexing the edges due to the fle...

Re: questions about a new scope

I have an XB30pro on one of my set ups. Everything else I own has leupold crossbones on them . To be brutally honest the hawke scope leaves a lot to be desired in a high priced scope. Optics quality is like looking through a fishbowl with crosshairs. The reticle is way too busy with more hash marks ...

Re: FLEMISH DYNA STRINGS

Every bow/setup is different so its really hard to generalize. Its always best to get at least a dozen shots over a chronograph to see what your outfit is really doing. I have a matrix 330 that I put a BCYX string on. 40 strand with angel majesty servings, its getting 309 fps with a 444 grain arrow.

Re: Expandable broad head question.

What is your total arrow weight? I shoot a 440 grainer with 100 grain spitfires from my 330. It rolls along at 309 fps and I have shot completely through everything I have taken with this set up.

Re: Is modern hunting actually easier?

Good thread, I think hunting overall is tougher in the high pressure areas only because people tend to do the same thing. Deer start to pattern people to a greater degree then years past. If you don't close the deal on a nice buck during the early season it seems to take much longer now with the hig...

Re: the grass isn't always greener

The one thing that stands out regardless of the brand of bow is, after you get past the mid 300 fps mark the problems and expense goes up. Price of the bow itself, string servings, strings and cables have a shorter life expectancy. Limb problems come and go, then the problems with arrow flite and so...

Re: OT: Why do you kill deer?

Taking deer or any kind of hunting is more food for the soul then it is for the stomach. Hunting is a way of life, without it there is an emptiness that one cannot describe. The preparation, the hunt itself, the taking of game and the bonding between friends and family make the activity the highligh...

Re: Why did you buy an X-bow?

That's easy, because crossbows were the only area of archery I haven't experimented with. I have been an archery nut for the last 48 years and nothing is going away anytime soon. I still have a few pet longbows, and one recurve along with a few compounds. Now add three excels. You can never have too...

Re: New 355 Matrix Has anyone chronographed it with 400 gr.

I got 336fps with 440 grain arrow. The only thing different with my set up is a string made of BCY X . I chrono all my set ups a few times a year.

Re: 0.001" vs. 0.003" accuracy??

The whole arrow straightness thing is the biggest sales gimmick the industry has. Look at how many years folks shot port orford cedar with amazing results. Now you have some that claim mediocre accuracy unless you have .001 or straighter carbon shafts? Just how much of a difference will you have in ...

Re: New String

I'm sorry guys, but there IS a difference in string material. The difference is dyneema material and vectran material...and they have a very different property of elasticity. Dyneema has more elasticity than vectran. By elasticity I mean the ability of the material to stretch and then come back. Ve...
