Re: Decock or shoot after hunt

I decock my 380 every time using the cocking rope, my buddy has a compound and has to shoot his every time. At first he just shot it into the ground or looked for a rotten stump, then he got a little discharge bag that he now shoots at when we get back to the truck. My line of thought is the same as...

Re: Dang Ticks!!

Also use Sawyers permethrin, never had a tick on me since using it.
I buy the big bottle, good for 5 articles of clothing and only apply once each season.

Re: The quest for big foot

Good luck getting him Joe, plenty of time left. One thing we were told by another hunter, Larry Benoit, is that if you can lay a loaded 30-06 shell in the hoof print the deer will be around 200 lb. dressed, that's one way they decided if a deer was large enough to track, If there was room to spare t...

Re: ATTN: Old stubborn men on this site!

I've got lots of buddies too who always tell me how they don't wear it. I just shake my head. It's not a badge of honour, it's more like a name tag you'll have to wear for the rest of your life so the nurse who feeds you and drains your dirty bags will know your name that day. Not a badge of honor ...

Re: ATTN: Old stubborn men on this site!

So far at 73 I have never worn one! My hunting buddy found himself laying on the ground after passing out or falling asleep, luckily he was hunting from the ground, one of his relation is paralyzed after falling out of a tree stand, he was a practicing doctor. The son of a guy I know fell out of a s...

Re: Lantern flys

They were at my property this summer spraying or doing something for them, haven't seen too many around. Different story in the town that's close to the Blue Mt., they are all over the place. I went to the town hardware store and noticed a bunch of them in the new wheelbarrows outside, mentioned it ...

Re: How Dare You!

I "WAS" an independent for all my life, no more! EVERY post so far pretty well sums up exactly the same thoughts that I myself have. Now, I may be able to be swayed a bit if one party offered me a new Excalibur, a new rifle, and a new pickup---I don't think that would even make me change my mind! :l...

Re: Never happen to me

That's scary, especially falling from a 22' stand, be glad you're still around.
Hopefully you can modify your hunting methods like you mentioned, and be healed up enough to get out, good luck on both the recovery and the hunting!

Re: Lets talk back pack's.

How far from your tree do you leave your deer cart? If you use one. Last year my buddy walked back to the truck twice to get the deer cart, app. 1 1/2 mi. one way. He lost a Buck he hit with the FL, that would have been about a 2+ mi. one way hike back to the truck for the cart. I just built ...

Re: Lets talk back pack's.

Like most, I either have a backpack, a military shoulder pack, or a modular waist pack to carry all the "STUFF" I take along for hunting. That's in addition to the stuff I have stashed in the pockets of the cargo pants and the jacket! :eusa-doh: I even had to put straps on the waist pack so it would...
