Re: Permit season, any luck?
I got lucky after no success on an archery bull tag here in AZ. I used my legal exomax crossbow. Beast to use spot and stalk.sitting a blind or stand at a tank was useless. Mainly due to excessive atvs. Guides side-by-side etc.yrs past, maybe several a day but last yr it seemed like non stop from 3a...

Re: Excalibur open sights
My exomax came with a rear peep and a single front pin..I've since added a scope.
.
Was always easy to use and dead on at like 25 yrds.
Rear peep could be drilled open more , or adapted / modified to an open sight. Just cut it to make a rear sight.

Re: What type of critter is this?????
A lot of hunters use latex gloves while field dressing. Same basic rule. Great for skinning out an animal. But toss when it comes to handling clean meat. Hanging an animal makes it 10 times easier. I usually pack a folding gamble. But sometimes no trees around in the desert. Always pack a poncho. No...

Re: What type of critter is this?????
Way too funny! Finally got back to this forum and what do I see, a piggy skull! Yes , its definitely a javelina. But here in Az ,we normally refer to them as piggys . I,ve been archery hunting them for over 50 yrs. I can't count how many kills. Probably in thirties. I've prepared and eaten everyone ...

Re: Elk hunt update
I tried! Elk just weren't in the rut! Weather was way to warm! Way to many atvs than in previous yrs!
I don't feel to bad as local guide only filled 2 or 5 for his clients, with guys running all over the unit trying to find hot buglin bulls.

Re: Elk hunt update
No landowner tags in Az. You can someplace pay a trespass type fee. Still no bulls. Sporadic bugles. Still mostly nocturnal. Bulls bugling on the mtn. tops. Some action after dark and early am. But go quiet after sunrise. Some tree rubs are starting. This danged archery is too early. The muzzy hunts...

Re: Elk hunt update
Time to move camp, few bigledc and hunting pressure hasn't stopped.
I'mcamped on a dead end rd that has one big tank.
Hunters coming in at 3,4 5 am everyday.
Stay till dark
I got to sit tank 1 time in 9 days.
Weekend here, gonna take break , find new spot.
Wash camos etc.

Elk hunt update
Warm weather 74-45. Elk just starting to bugle a little after dark. Even though low number tags this unit. Lots of hunters cruisein looking for elk , which are nocturnal still. Still hunting with exomax more of a challenge than expected. I won't caring thru woods cooked. Sitting a tank ok. 9 days le...
