Re: Rail lube or silicone clean

Funny, nearly twenty years ago when I bought me Exocet, it came with a small plastic container of “Excalibur String & Deck Wax”. The instructions said to rub the wax on the rail, which I dutifully did. The thing was, this wax seemed rather sticky, not slippery. And when I fired off an arrow, spa...

Re: Made some awsome biltong today

Gosh, I’ve never even heard of “biltong”! Guess is it some kind of Asian thing?
I’ll have to look it up and learn more about it.

Re: Gillie suit

Stick with watcha got. The “shaggy” ghillie suits are an absolute pain in the butt—especially around briars! They snag on everything.

Re: Deer Season Open's this weekend Sept. 7th

I wish North Carolina would open the season a month later, and then keep it open a month later.

It’s so dang hot out, I can’t even get motivated to hunt this time of year! No break in the 85-90 degree heat for a couple weeks either.

Just about the time the woods get nice, the season ends!

Re: Almost here

You’re the first person I’ve heard of who retired TO Michigan! You must really enjoy that cold weather!
Actually, you’re making the better choice, in moving to where the grandkids are. So many Northerners move to Florida, only to be ice-free but lonely.

Re: Hunting platform

LOL, that deer tree house/club house reminds me of a similar one built by a buddy of mine in my traditional muzzleloading club. One frosty morning in November he goes in there in the pre-dawn darkness--only to find a guy living in it! The guy said his wife had kicked him out of the house, and he had...

Re: Hunting platform

If the stand hasn’t been up long, and the wood is still pretty dry, as a chemical engineer I’d suggest painting all the boards that make ground contact. Modern “treated lumber” isn’t nearly as rot-resistant as the old stuff. Government regulations have removed all the effective wood preservatives fr...

Re: Ground ninja videos

Thanks for sharing that, longbowjoe!

There are so many hunting “shows” on YouTube, (most of them not worth watching) that it’s hard to find something original and educational.

His style of hunting lends itself especially well to our “horizontal bows”!

Re: .003 Vs .001 ?

Has anyone tried the Carbon Express® PileDriver 20" X-Bolt. Apparently they are .004, but seem to have gotten decent reviews. I'd like to hear what your thoughts are on the arrows. Yes, I bought a dozen and they’ve shot great for me. Can’t tell a difference in accuracy vs my BE Executioners. I...

Re: string silencers

As ComfyBear said, heavier arrows and fatter strings reduce vibration noise noticeably. Additionally, I found that putting an 1/8” (3mm, for you Canadians) thick urethane or hard rubber spacer between the stirrup and the rail helps keep vibrations from traveling to the stirrup. Some wrap/coat the st...

Re: Water Holes for Deer

I recall a Midwest Whitetail video—2016 or 2017 season, I believe—where a guy in a hot state like Georgia or Alabama put a kiddies wading pool in the middle of some planted pine. Kept it filled with water, and hunted over it. As I recall he was quite successful with it. You can pick those kiddie poo...

Man, that’s a great paint job!

If you have a mind to, I and a bunch of other folks would enjoy seeing a “How-to” on how you painted that.

Re: Tick spray

IMO permethrin is never overkill. It works on ticks and it works for 6 weeks or so even washing the clothes. How is that overkill? I do mix my own so it is dirt cheap also. Amen, brother! When it comes to ticks and chiggers, there is no such thing as overkill! I mix my own Permethrin too. Just buy ...

Re: Tick spray

Thanks for sharing. Does it have a smell for hunting or strictly for fun activities. I have been using the armbands this summer when permethrin is overkill . They work well on mosquitoes but smell of strong citronella. IMO permethrin is never overkill. It works on ticks and it works for 6 weeks or ...

Re: Pic From My Plot Camera

Wow, that’s a heckuva fine specimen for a southern bear! He must have access to some human-derived supplemental food source.

The increased black bear population here in the southeastern US is really starting to negatively impact fawn survival rates in places.
