Re: opening day blues

I've been trying to get out for the Northern VA doe gun season all month, but I've had to sit out a half dozen afternoons. When its above 85F, all I'm killing is time and skeeters. That's been ruling out most afternoon hunts. It looks like we'll finally have cooler temps roll in before the bow opene...

Re: Recommend Me A Reliable 100gr Expandable

If your shot angles will not be steep, then the 1.75" Spitfire Maxx is good. I prefer the 2" cut on the Spitfire XXX or Rocket Hammerhead even more. I band the spitfires for added insurance and always double band the Hammerheads. My overall favorite expandable is the Rocket Sidewinder. Its only 1.5"...

Re: Dont trash that old hang on stand

My main stand got the chain treatment the year I noticed rust. Now that's my pre-deployment standard. I also wrap chain around the tree so its loosely hanging by chain and then add a couple ratchet straps for additional stability. I don't trust the squirrels around here enough to bet my life on anyt...

Re: broadheads

I'll admit it, I'm a broadhead junkie. But I have a big preference for what works well. Fortunately, there are a lot of them that work well. Some bow/arrow combinations can shoot anything, and others have issues with fixed heads if not enough FOC. I carry three different types of broadheads i...

Re: Where were you when the world stopped turning

I was at home taking a comp day because I was supposed to be on a plane (one of those flight numbers) that following weekend. I was watching the TV live when the 2nd plane hit. I called in to work to see if I needed to report in because as far as I was concerned, we had work to do.

Re: PROOF THAT THIS FORUM IS A TERRIBLE PLACE TO BE!

Congrats on the bow Anthony. Your just in time for the new season so you can break it in right.

I have the same affliction, but with broadheads. I probably have a five year supply, but I just bought another pack because it was a good deal and our season hasn't even started yet.

Re: Removing Decals From Bolts

No soak time at all. I just removed some decals on BE Zombies. A little acetone on a cloth and rub it back and forth and the decal will begin to melt away within seconds. You will ruin the cloth so use something disposable. Start to finish you can get the decal off in a minute. The wetter the cloth,...

Re: Insert glue choices

I've been using super glue or color change Krazy Glue when I can find it. I've found it to work well on Blazers and inserts. The only issue I have found is that it is permanent. I've never been able to get an insert out once its glued. I've been cleaning with acetone, but haven't needed to scuff the...

Re: Deer Season Open's this weekend Sept. 7th

We have a doe only gun season in Northern VA that starts Saturday. Since I've got another hunter hunting with us this year, I'm putting him in my stand. I'll be sitting closer to houses which makes the perfect situation to tote my Excalibur instead of a gun. I've got six doe tags left from last seas...

Re: Slick Trick Questions

As far as the slick trick BH if I chose to shoot them I shoo the Grisstrick 2 it has a 1 1/4 " cut and leaves a good blood trail it is not for crossbows but they are so strong it does not matter. and they fly good out of my bows. W.M. x2. My Micro loves them. So far everything I've shot with them h...

Re: Almost here

Contrats on the retirement. I've got about 2000 days left, but who's counting?

Hopefully you'll find the transition and relocation to be a smooth one. Learning a new hunting location can be challenging but that helps test your years of wisdom. Enjoy all it all you can.

Re: What is a good FOC

As others mentioned, I've heard 10 to 15%. In my experience, 10% might work well for field points or expandable broadheads but I haven't had any luck with fixed heads with a FOC that low. 15-18% is a lot better for fixed heads. With a FOC near 18%, I saw no difference in point of impact regardless o...
