Re: OT: Peruvian Ground Cherries

I spent 16 days in Peru a couple of years ago. I don't remember any specific reference to ground cherries, but I do remember that lots of their sauces were yellow with an unfamiliar but pleasant taste. I suspect that I may have sampled some Peruvian ground cherries without realizing it. Congratulati...

Re: Katana 385???

You can get them from custom shops. Don't even think about factory ones, you know.... the definition of insanity right? If you get one, look at the cam timing. If it looks good at rest, cock it and look again. Cocked is the most important cam position as it applies the most force on the arrow. If t...

Re: Biggest Moose ever with my Micro 335

That thing looks to be about the size of a large horse! A lot bigger job than I'm used to with whitetails, but I'd love to have that chore. Congratulations!

Re: My first crossbow deer!

Great job, and I bet it was a satisfying experience. This may have been your first, but I bet we will get tired of reading about all of your future successes on this site. Get back out there and get another one!

It's about time somebody bagged a deer on this forum! Congratulations, and go get another one. Every deer is a trophy, and well earned.

Re: Party Started Widout Me!

I wasn't upset at all, I was just trying to warn you in case you didn't realize baiting is illegal in MO. Every state's laws are different. I am glad to hear that. I will tell the tick toters to abide by my poster that says tree rats allowed to feed only in the back yard. Yer correct baitin is ille...

I hope that's not in Missouri, where it's illegal to bait. I've heard about hefty fines.

Re: Nock removal

I cut the bent part off a wire coat hanger leaving a straight thin rod about 20" long. Then I unscrewed and removed the target tip and poked the nock out with the stiff wire rod. Poke it hard and it will come out easily enough. I just did it again Thursday afternoon to get ready for our Saturday ope...

Re: Missed 1st day of Season

I hunted the last two mornings until about 8:30. I saw a couple of does yesterday (Sat.) and three more this morning. One of the does this morning was out in a soybean field about 45 yards away from my stand and I probably could have shot her. That is well beyond my self imposed maximum range, (and ...

Re: Scope Setting

I sighted my bow in at 25 yds. last year and the first deer shot was at 15 yards. I didn't think to aim lower and I spined her. She died quickly but I still didn't like it. I switched back to 20 yds. and am comfortable with the decision. I don't use the 30, 40 and 50 yard chevrons either (except tar...

Re: 2018 Season Opener

I just looked at the long range weather forecast for where I hunt (N.E. Missouri) and on our opening day (Sept 15) it projects a low of 45 and a high of 67. That will change many times before the day arrives but it would be an extraordinarily cool opener for us. Most of my preparation is done and I'...

Re: Quill Bolts and replacing the nocks?

I cut both ends off of the longest pat of a metal coat hanger, removed the field point or broadhead and punch the old nock out from the other end with the hanger portion. This has always worked for me.

Tripod stands

Is anyone else out there using a tripod deer stand? I'm talking about the kind that is 15 to 16 feet tall and has a 360 degree rotating seat and a 360 degree shooting rail (not the more portable shorter version). These stands don't fit every situation, they're not practical on public land and are ha...
