Re: Dental band breakdowns

I know lots of people will disagree with me, but why add unnecessary risk to your hunt when there are lots of broadheads out there that don't require dental bands to prevent them from malfunctioning? I prefer fixed blades myself, but if I went to an expandable, it would have to be the most reliable ...

Re: Med body, small rack 8, bizarre twist - literally

You cannot beat a story that involves a successful crossbow deer hunt with a dog as a hero! Congratulations, and extra kudos to you for your perseverance. As to your shot, you obviously made a good shot but something probably went wrong with the arrow or broadhead. Sometimes there is no accounting f...

Re: bolt length for an Axoim

I uncocked a 20 inch arrow with a boltcutter on it into my foot with my axiom 7 years ago. I was in a hurry to watch a playoff baseball game and after I took my boots off I remembered that I hadn't uncocked my bow. The broadhead went through my sock and well into my foot behind where two toes come t...

Re: Just wanna say.....

I know several people who have had hip replacement surgery and everyone surgery was successful and made a difference. Get healed fast and get out there for some later season hunts!

Re: opening day delay

I totally agree with your reasoning. Our season has been open since 9/15 and, though I'm retired and can hunt all I want to, I've just gone out 3 mornings. Our high temps. have been mostly 85 - 90 degrees and the woods is like a jungle. I'm 70 yrs. old and this is the hottest Sept. I can remember. B...

Re: Exo Bull

That thing looks as big as a Clydesdale! I know that after the kill of an animal this big there is a lot of hard work that has to be done in a timely manner, but I'm sure I wouldn't mind. I think I would have to buy two or three more freezers, though.

Re: Some people

Does this genius know how much farmland costs these days? Around my farm land costs $4,000 an acre at a minimum and goes up from there. I've never charged anyone to hunt, but I would totally understand anyone who would. And really, $100.00 to hunt a good piece of land is great bargain. That's dirt ...

Re: Micro 335 problems again

A few years ago I posted about how appealing the micro was to me but I was reluctant to invest in one because of so many people posting about limb issues. I was immediately attacked by a couple of posters and essentially called stupid. I saw no reason to take a risk when there are so many models tha...

Re: OT: Saying Goodbye...

I really feel for you! What a beautiful dog he was. I have never done anything tougher than facing the fact that a canine member of our family had reached the end and had to be put down. The last time it happened to us the Veterinarian was crying and so were my wife and I. The only bad thing about d...

Re: corn or soybeans?

You are no doubt right about the rain causing a lot of the corn to be planted late. With corn at $4.30 a bushel (largely because lots of river bottom fields couldn't be planted at all) corn looks like it will be a money maker this year if you get a good crop. Corn or soybeans, I love being in the st...

corn or soybeans?

Most years when I drive through farm country I see about equal amounts of corn and soybeans growing. This year (probably because of the tariffs) there seems to be more corn than beans. Usually, if farmers can't get their corn planted by June 1, they plant beans. This year I'm seeing lots of shorter ...

Re: HOW FAR DO YOU HAVE TO TRAVEL TO PRACTICE SHOOTING YOUR CB?

Crossbows are dangerous enough that I think it is appropriate to regulate where you can shoot them in more densely populated areas (like cities and most suburbs). I'm fortunate to own a farm where I can walk out of the door of the house and shoot to my hearts content. I haven't used them, but there ...

Re: 60 days until bow season

I hope all of you get to hunt as much as you want to this coming season. The early season heat is a definite hindrance but mornings are often nice enough to enjoy. Pretty soon lots of us will be able to say the season starts next month. I haven't touched a crossbow since last November, so it's about...

Re: Deer hunting out of state - where to go?

Missouri passed a 1/8 % sales tax for conservation in the late 1970s and bought lots of small tracts for public land in the years since. I deer hunt on private land so I don't know a lot about pressure, but I do some bird hunting on public land and haven't noticed many archers where I have gone. Nor...
