Re: This long range stuff is outta hand

Thanks for the words. Oh, I really like the whole long range target shooting thing. It is amazing just how little groups can be from so far away. What rubbed me the wrong way was my friend's thinking he is smarter than a deer. He doesn't worry about wind, scent, camo, movement or noise because he's ...

This long range stuff is outta hand

My friends invited me to go to the range with them. Their Dad drove like 3 hours to the range when there are a bunch a lot closer. They said it was the only one around that has 500 yards. I thought they were just messing around but they are sighting in far and planning to shoot deer and animals 300 ...

Heck of a Summer ....

This is off topic so some people might not be interested. This summer was the best for my brother and I. I didn't get to post much because we were really busy. Now school is starting again and football is in full swing. We went hunting for Javelina and Axis deer, guided three charity hunts for kids ...

Re: Water Holes for Deer

You mean like this deer I filmed?

https://youtu.be/RcPiTL3ElM0

I have like 30 seconds of this but it wont post that long so this is a short clip. The deer pees in the water a couple of times and splashes it on herself...

Re: Bear hunting advice wanted

I would consider it more of an accomplishment with a muzzleloader if it was traditional style. If its a scoped rifle it wouldn't make a difference whether it had powder and bullet or whole cartridge.

Re: So who has an Axe to grind?

Well I have been saving all summer for something and a new Excalibur in Micro size is on my list. I really love our Matrix 380 but it is just a little too long and wide for our ground blind on our property. It is still too heavy for me to shoot offhand too. I have handled a few Micros and they seem ...

Re: O/T inline - muzzlerloader

We shoot mostly traditional muzzleloaders. Although my family prefers bowhunting including a crossbow we get a kick out of the whole thing with the old style muzzleloader. For the percussion ones we use 777 powder that is FFFg. There is FFg too but we get more velocity with less powder using the kin...

Broadhead observation

We have been shooting a lot of different stuff with the summer hunts and getting ready for regular hunting season. I started to notice something about different broadheads. The ones with a solid blade, no holes in it or space between blade and ferrule stay straight over longer distance and penetrate...

Re: Two Crossbow Hunts Completed....

"Nobody on your hunts ever misses, me thinks that your Excalibur shooting instructor skills are dead ON." Two words - Shooting-Sticks and Rangefinder. (Is that 2 words?) I show them a picture of what the crosshairs look like on a target and get them set up on sticks. Don't make a big deal out of it...

Two Crossbow Hunts Completed....

My Dad sponsored a kid named Jordan that got a Make A Wish to play baseball but wanted two more things: Go fishing and go hunting. Make A Wish doesn't do those kind of things. We had him and his little brother and Mom come to Texas and meet us at a ranch. This is one of the few places you can hunt i...

Make a Wish hunt.....

I am excited to say that we are hosting a family for a hunt next week. One of the boys is a year older than me and he has CF. He has a few "wishes", and one was to play baseball with Derek Jeter. He was put on the team for one game and was able to pitch, catch, bat and play outfield. He got his own ...
