Re: Freezing apples for deer?

Deer love apples but I find if you put them out in piles the raccoons beat the deer to most of them.

Re: My hunting land is a garbage dump for some rude slobs!

up here the slobs dump garbage in the ditches outside town because they know the County guys will have to pick it up before it disrupts the drainage . I've even seen a load of bricks dumped in a ditch.

Re: Discouraged Lost two turkey

My experience has been that arrows which pass through turkeys rarely have any blood on them. The feathers on the exit side of the bird wipe it clean on the way out, really clean. Turkeys I've seen shot with 2 blade rage were almost cut in half.

Re: O/T Muskies Canada Members?

You want to look at the Kawartha's. Search youtube "kawartha muskie" for a taste of what is going on up there with that fishery, it's hot. The guys from Fish'n Canada film a fair bit of musky fishing there. The numbers are apparently as good as anywhere (except the St Clair charters) and t...

Re: Washer weights

some 25 years ago I bought some of those kolpin 4 blade heads with the offset blades. Came with a huge pack of weighted washers which I kept. Last spring I killed a turkey with a 100 grain wasp Jak-hammer with 4 washers behind it to bring it up to 125. Have another one of these set up for this spring.

We know all about this. It's been a long time since crown royal and Canadian club were actually Canadian whiskey, and try to find the word rye on either of their labels now. :?

Windfinder.com

Hourly wind forecasting up to 5 days out, speed and vector. Pretty much determines which days I hunt and which stands.

Re: Whats in your stand with you?

Most of what has been listed above. Will add one piece of kit I never leave home without; pruning shears.

They are essential gear for turkey hunting, and very handy for deer stand maintenace as well.

Re: Bear Hunting in Ontario

pretty much all the fishing up there other than Lake superior is Pike/Pickerel (in Ontario Walleye are known as pickerel, especially up north). You can catch both trolling crankbaits & you must use steel leaders for the pike their teeth cut the line. there are brook trout in spots but those secr...

Re: Bear Hunting in Ontario

Yup get prepared for the bugs. I'm sure you got em in pa but not like this. It's a bumper crop this year too with all the rain. Bug jacket, thermacell, deet, layers (mosquitoes easily bite through one layer but have trouble getting through two). Good luck and I don't know where you are going but try...

Re: TURKEY BREAST

I like to butterfly the breasts, stuff them and tie them with oven string. Lay some bacon or proscuito over them to keep them moist and cook slowly on the bbq. The trick to grilling skinless breasts well is to use a digital meat thermometer. If you have to cut into them to check them they will lose ...

Re: Frustrated

The best way by far is to network, or drive over 1/2 away from the city. You will not find anyone within 1/2 hour who doesn't already have someone hunting. My brother in laws co-worker hunts here etc. etc. I have great luck banging on doors an hour north, most farmers don't seem to care much

Woolwich Twp Tom

All the years turkey hunting I've never seen a Tom come running into a decoy before. Heard the stories about it, seen it on TV shows and youtube vids, but never in the field until yesterday. gobbling was all around me as day broke and a couple of flydown cackles on my Gobblestalker box call set off ...
