Re: Downwind hunter scenario
It happens. periodically a deer will come in straight into the wind. Who knows why, perhaps being in a stand has the scent going over him, perhaps his hormones have the better of his common sense. The worst part of it is, we generally don't spend much time keeping an eye on the downwind side of the ...

Re: Feds are sticking it to us again!!!
This gov't ran on the standard conservative platform of lower taxes and less bureaucracy and here they are levying yet another blatant cash grab tax.

Re: last couple turkey days (PIC heavy)
leave the decoys at home and put the caller 40 yds behind or down the treeline from the shooter. They may hang up on the caller in range of the shooter. We wacked another big bird in Woolwich 2 mornings ago. He wouldn't answer any yelps, only purrs and clucks, very call shy on the yelping they've he...

Here's a pic of an Algonquin park lake trout caught last august. We generally catch them 40'-50' down in 60'-80' of water that time of year http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg502/evaughan1/lunch.jpg He won't break any records for size but made a fine lunch at the waters edge http://i1241.photobuc...

I like the silence of the electric too, but I know we will be doing big family tours around here and I am concerned about the battery life. There are so many options out there that I don't know which way to turn. I love the back seat, need it actually with 5 of us, and the fact it converts to a &qu...

I like obama, some of the stupid stuff he does is easy for comics to caption. Sure wouldn't want to live under his proposed promise of "change" though. I think Obama is the closest thing to Satan I have ever seen . And NOW I find out he has eaten DOG meat. The ultimate insult! One of my b...

Re: What is your opinion
Turkeys seem to be on a fairly normal schedule, hoping they are not too affected by this craziness. Trout opener onthe other hand could be a flop. Most river steelies are spawned out and falling back by the opener. If this weather continues and the rivers get above 63-64 degrees, the fish won't hold...

Re: O/T Describe the usual border crossing?
These days, for the most part they just swipe your passport through a special blackberry to check for warrants/restrictions, ask you where you are going, if you need to declare anything and you are on your way. the biggest hassle going both ways is wait times at certain times of day but even for a B...

Re: Toronto sportsman show
The metro centre is right across the street from union station, the bus from Kitchener stops right between them. I take it when I have to go down there for work. Bit pricey though if you have to go every day of the show.

For large game, bison and musk ox are tops, elk and moose next. Caribou can also be very good.
For me though, the ruffed grouse is king. The "partridge" is fantastic table fare.
A meal of "partridge" and "pickerel" in northern Ontario can't be beat for wild fare.

Re: Gun Registry
Why did you ask your friends if you could keep them for yourself? You could have taken taken possession of them and legally registered them in your name if you have a PAL. I have at least four guns in the cabinet that were given to me that way. these were junk, old rustball cooeys etc. "I've h...

Re: Gun Registry
The whole thing is useless, but it's nothing more than useless. Gun ownership is still very straight forward and easy in Canada, I buy, sell and trade long guns as I wish with limited complexities. I have seen and heard others claim that they are being treated like criminals. I have through the regi...

congrats on raising an exceptional young lady!
I will never forget the taste and smell of cs gas as long as I live. We had to eat a rat pack in there and drink a half a canteen! When I lifted that mask to take my first bite.......never forget it, ever.
