Re: Shooting AT the Shoulder
No misfires yet on the Coreloks but I don't have any really new ammo. A box of 20 last me a couple of years.
It's good you found her.

Re: Shooting AT the Shoulder
Even though I don't have very many years of experience, I thought I would throw in some more anecdotal evidence. This morning about 10:00 a little 8 pt buck stepped out under me. He came up beside me and started moving away on the path I walked in on. We have been in rifle season since the middle of...

Re: Avatar picture has flown the coop ?
Lately pictures posted to the forum have been refusing to open. Last night pretty much all the avatar pictures didn't show. Wasn't sure if that was my laptop or a forum issue. Today all the pictures seem to be loading properly avatars and embedded links

Re: Thermocell or not
Thanks for the advice Where I hunt is criss crossed with trails and I have had deer come from all four directions. No rhyme or reason. Wind varies a lot and not very consistent, but it's in my back yard, close and free. So it is what it is...I agree hunting without it is miserable and impossible to ...

Re: Thermocell or not
Anthony I read all those last night when I couldn't sleep. I didn't realize the Thermacell had been around as long as it has. I had never heard of it before. After reading through those threads I still wonder if it is making a deterrent for me. One of those threads most of the use was in a ground bl...

Re: Thermocell or not
Sorry Anthony I have pretty much read every thread daily for several months now. Must have missed it... Hopefully it will cool off soon so this will be a none issue at least for this year. I am pretty high up but the lack of deer sightings makes me suspicious. I will check into some other options. I...

Re: Bow Noise/Decibel meter
SEW Do you have access to a decibel meter? I have a friend from church that has one but I'm not sure I could borrow it. It would be really interesting to actually measure how much difference your efforts made. Racking up points That is interesting you could make a follow up shot without spooking the...

Re: Bow Noise/Decibel meter
My point was suppressor manufacturers provide specs even if they are only 1 or 2 decibels quieter. That is not the difference in whether one can is hearing safe or not. Pretty much every suppressor is hearing safe. It is an attempt to provide information that their can works the best. I would think ...

Thermocell or not
It has been really warm this fall, and because of that it has been necessary to deal with mosquitos while hunting. It has cooled off some, so morning hunts aren't a problem any more but evening hunts still require a deterrent. Somewhere I heard about Thermocells and I got one off Amazon several week...

Re: Bow Noise/Decibel meter
You would think Excalibur would have done this during R&D. I would assume they tried a bunch of different techniques for quieting these bows versus loss of speed and then came up with a compromise package. Whether they will release the stats or not is another thing...Gun suppressors always tout ...

Re: Favorite time of day to hunt?
I prefer morning hunts for all the same reasons. I tend to be in the stand about 2 hours before shootable light. It's quiet, cool and damp but last year all three of the deer I killed were in the evening and tracked in the dark. Fortunately none of them went very far. Most nights it's not cold enoug...

Re: Tag Soup.
I get a little interaction like that but where I hunt is thick and mainly a travel corridor. I almost never get to sit and watch mature deer. They tend to move through quickly headed for deeper cover. I do enjoy it when I get one out there that just wants to wander around and eat. It makes the time ...

Re: Any cold weather hunters?
After looking at my gear a little closer today I have the MT050 Whitetail Extreme parka and bibs from Cabelas. One reason I went this route is they are offered in Tall sizes and at 6-5 that really helps the fit. Also if anyone is interested they are on sale right now. Pretty heavily discounted but s...
