Re: OT Whip poor wills
When I was a kid growing up in East Texas you would see these by the hundreds. I always thought they were a very colorful bird. They always showed up in the fall. Migration, I guess. Then they stopped. I learned later on that they were called Cedar Wax Wings. Don't ask me why they are called that, ...

OT Whip poor wills
I was turkey hunting Tuesday morning (didn't have a gobbler within calling distance) when I heard a whippoorwill call twice. I thought I was hearing things. 20 years ago, there so many of them that it was hard to hear a turkey in the pre-dawn hours of a spring morning. Rather quickly, they have disa...

Re: Turkey with the Micro
I really enjoyed both videos! Congratulations to both of you. We used to have a lot of birds like that a few years ago. They have gotten much scarcer. I hunted last Monday and Tuesday and didn't have a gobbler close enough to work on either of those cold, windy mornings. There were three strutting g...

Nice fish and nice job! This is why I am not a fan of pike. They always cost me some blood!

Re: O/T Gobbler Down
I'm curious as to what went wrong with the 410 and TSS rounds. The reviews I've read on line, all make that combination look to be excellent. I recently bought (or rather paid for - it hasn't come in yet) a 20 ga. Savage model 301 with the factory turkey choke, along with a box of Federal 7/9 TSS sh...

I'm no expert, but I agree with the opinion that Black Eagle Executioners and Zombies are easier to customize than the factory arrows that come with Excals. When you buy more arrows, consider making them Black Eagles. That said, why not move up to 150 gr. slicktricks with your factory arrows, sight ...

An Irishman was late for a very important meeting and could not find a parking space. Finally, he closed his eyes and said "Lord, if you'll just give me a parking space I promise I'll quit drinking and start going to mass every Sunday." He opened his eyes and there was a parking space. He ...

Re: Excalibur Beacon Illuminated Nock
They look great and I'll likely buy some, but they seem to be very expensive. The only price I could find was $39.95 at Wyvern's. I assume that will be for 3 nocks (it did not say) or a little over $13 per nock. With a $13 broadhead on an $8 arrow we're shooting $34 that may hit a rock or tree. Whe...

Re: WOAH!!
I admire his skill and courage and wish him well, but that kind of risk doesn't usually work out long term. It's like the guys who jump off of cliffs with flying (gliding) suits, motorcycle trick artists and even the crocodile hunter. Eventually they seek one thrill too many.

Re: Two german shepards killed and skinned by crossbow hunter.
My son (who lives in Florida) has a german shepherd named Thor. Thor (who is my buddy) weighs over 100 lbs. and has long legs. A big male coyote weighs 45 lbs. and is stockier with shorter legs. If you don't know what you're shooting at don't shoot. We have a 4 points on one side rule where I hunt (...

Two german shepards killed and skinned by crossbow hunter.
I hope he didn't use an Excalibur. This is really disturbing.

My first graphite fishing rod was also a Fenwick and I loved that rod. Eventually I broke the tip off and it just wasn't the same with a new tip. I have an 8'6" Fenwick steelhead rod today that I have used for salmon in Alaska as well as bass, walleye and catfish, in various places. I like Loom...
